Monetization:Kontera Ads Removed

Posted by Pixelhead

The trial period of using Kontera ads on Pixelheadonline is over. After reviewing the records, it was determined that the Kontera ads were not worth as much as they cost. Lizzie, who was never a fan of the Kontera bubble ads, was right. Yes I said it in writing, she was right and I was wrong.

The ads in addition to being annoying, also slowed down the page load times considerably. For visitors who use slower ISP’s, the extra time could be quite considerable.

However, we will still be monetizing the site with a variety of advertisements to include text link ads, banner adds, paid blog reviews, directory links, and of course Google Adsense.

I’ve ran ads from a few networks on some of my sites and they too slowed down loading times, it’s usually the javascript ones that do that. Not only that but they created problems when Google crawled my site and tried to cache pages. Good job removing them :)

Yes, I can really see the difference in download speeds since taking them off. I might have to look into taking off some of the others as well.

I was actually looking at one of those Auction Ad sites this morning, but not sure if I like the idea of being in business with Ebay.

I was hestitant to add Kontera to my site but did it anyway. No one mentioned anything, but they annoyed the hell out of me so I can only imagine what visitors must have thought. The 10 cents per month was not worth it so they were GONE.

There is new contextual sponsor which should be much better than Kontera because is using its own Advertisers and not some middle man feeds. So publisher get higher profits.  It has also referral program so please join MediaText here: http://www.webmaster-money.org/out_MediaText.html

They are now looking for high traffic sites so they can satisfy their advertisers.

Pay Per Impression,
Thanks for letting us know about the new program for website monetization. I am not a fan of pop ups or unders, but some website owners may find this useful.

I didn’t have any luck with Kontera on my site either. The CTR was really low and I didn’t really like how it looked on the site. Maybe I’ll give them another try in the future but for now, they’re gone.

Yes, I may put them back on in the future as well, but now the traffic just isn’t there. We can’t all be like John Chow now can we.
I have actually been doing quite well with TLA of late, which seems to be my top advertising earner for the month.

As someone who’s considering Kontera, what are you going to be using as a worthwhile replacement with a higher return on investment?

For now I am just using TLA. I may also seek out some private advertisers.

Does anything but adsense produce?
I have amazon ads on my site that just take up space. The only reason they stick around is that I have a faint hope that they will produce over the holiday season.

TLA- Text-link-ads.com has a good program for advertising on blogs that has been giving me a recurring income from this blog. Much more than Google Adsense.

That seems to be the consensus on a number of blogs I’ve visited. Some say that infolinks is a better choice. Thoughts?
