Search Engine Traffic for Blogs

Posted by Pixelhead

Steven of Vandelay Website Design, another Top Commentator for August, has a really awesome post about increasing your blog’s Search Engine traffic. This post is Monday’s post for a five-day series of posts about growing your blog, and Vandelay Website Design Logooffers up some solid advice about increasing traffic to your blog.

Steven starts out his post by listing some of his blog’s impressive traffic stats for the past few months. He then lists four methods for increasing traffic to your blog. Each of these sections are packed with some great blog marketing information and resources such as the Bloggers D-list which is a list of blogs that do not use the No Follow tag.
If Stevens post is an indication of the quality information that can be found in this series, I recommend reading it and the other posts in this series on Growing Your Blog as well.

Great job Steven, keep the great posts coming!

I’m a regular reader of the Vandelay blog- Steven’s stuff always impresses me, and the blog as a whole is a resource that I plan to refer to regularly as soon as I get my own blog going. I agree with your recommendation wholeheartedly!

@Aaron, glad you seconded my opinion. Let me know if I can help with your blog when you get it going.

@swollenpickles(love your name) Yea I do too. I wonder if that was their intent or if Vandelay Website Designs was around way before that Seinfeld episode. Either way, it works out well for them as it does result in great name recognition.

Aaron,
Thanks for the recommendation!

Adam,
The Seinfeld episode came before my name. I’m a big fan so I decided to use the name. It’s funny to me when people recognize, which obviously a lot of people do. I also recommend that everyone checks out Kevin’s article linked in the previous comment.

Steve, your name rocks. There was a Seinfeld episode early on in season one I think called “the revenge” where george worked at a real estate firm run by this obnoxious boss. My friend later named his company Rick Barr Properties after the name of the company in the episode, and more than one person has chosen that company to represent them because they love his sense of humor.

That’s funny. Is that the boss that George tried to poison after he got fired?

If you use no follow tag then.. whats the benefit for you???

Mahesh, I believe that the “No Follow” tag came about as a result of people trying to get links for SEO. The “No Follow” tag tells the Search Engine Spiders to not follow the link, thereby nullifying the juice of any No Follow links. Wikipedia now uses No Follow tags on all of its outbound links, which it stared using to reduce the amount of spam entries.

Thanks for the tips!
I found that updating my blog regularly kept traffic levels increasing.
I also manged to find a story which was hot news and not yet published on a lot of sites. This got my traffic from 300 to 5000+ in a day! Shame it’s a piece of news and will soon decrease in popularity. We’ll see what happens.

Best for traffic is to social bookmark it even if it is just to your blog. You will get page rank up and a little traffic from stumble and such. Try it out I’m sure you will like it.
