Blog Traffic from BlogRush

Posted by Pixelhead

Following the likes of JohnChow.com and DoshDosh.com, I joined the BlogRush content syndication network and put the BlogRush Widgetwidget on my sidebar. So for every 1 visitor that views my widget, I get to have the newest headline from this site viewed 1 time on another blog. I can also get credits by referring others to the site by doing posts like this.

In addition to this, traffic statistics will also be available, to see how much traffic it is generating. Pretty cool.
What else did I do?Viddler Screen shot

After taking a screen shot of the BlogRush widget, I put a pic of the Blogrush widget on my Flickr account and also started a BlogRush group on Flickr. I also mentioned joining BlogRush in my Viddler video I did today. I have yet to install the widget to let me embed video, but you can click on the pick and watch my goofy Viddler video.  More importantly, in the video, I am sporting my ultra cool Sammy The Surf Dog hat that I just got in the mail from Paula Queen of the Surf Pirates’ store. Do you think the hat makes me look younger?

Not that I can tell, I’ll give it a month or so. I did get a general email that said they understood that the click through rate was very low and explained some things that can be done to increase it such as better titles. They are also working on the categories so that more relevancy will help increase click through as well.
As has been said, the big guy over at BlogRush, John Reese is a marketing wiz that specializes in campaigns that create a buzz.

John Reese has created a huge buzz around BlogRush, every where I go I read something about it. Seems like a great widget.

While I have signed up & installed the code to my blog, I wonder how Google’s flying monkeys will look at it… I wonder, long term if BlogRush will be viewed as the latest link/banner/traffic train and adjust their algorithm to ignore or downgrade the traffic and links from said widget / service.

Quite frankly, I don’t know a thing about algorithms or how Google decides what is and isn’t valid authority.

I just know that since my PR, after having this writing, business coaching blog fully functional since Spring & having a PR of 0 – I really can’t afford for the big G to take a disliking to my site, this round.

Sincerely,

Meg Meyer

It’s a great viral idea. But the thing is, everybody puts widget in the bottom of the page, so the click through is what it is.

@Alex Time will tell won’t it. I am not sure how well it will work. I really don’t want to be optimizing my titles for the BlogRush widget though.

@Meg I am not sure how Google will look at it either. The links do change so perhaps Google will look at it as fresh content, like having an RSS feed that updates.

@Tubelounge Dude I don’t exactly have it at the top, but right below the fold. Maybe in a week or so I’ll move it up above the fold.

How has it been working? Any word yet on the amount of traffic that has been generated? Any specific numbers or a percentage?

Nothing definitive Dave, but I will be investigating my stats more closely next week.

Well, I’ve checked several blogger for their stats and they are not encouraging so far. The CTR is extremely low. My point of view: Possible reasons for low CTR are the titles and bad position for the widget(page bottom).

Catchy titles are always good.

I’m wondering how long the interest effect wears off among active bloggers, as that seems to be the majority of traffic, and the rest of the web just treats it as another banner ad.

I don’t expect the chatter to stop anytime soon. The lead guy running the biz seems to be a wiz at creating and maintaining buzz.

Are you getting some traffic also?

I really need to do an evaluation of my traffic. I guess I will need to check out Google Analytics as well as the BlogRush site has an analytics chart, but I have only looked at it once.
