Digg:Do You Love to Shout

The first Web2.0 Wednesday is a post about Digg.

I have not been a fan or user of Digg in the past, but this week that seems to have changed. Monday morning I got added by Jon of SWR, and after that it seemed like I was being shouted at, adding a new fan, or being added as a mutual friend every time I checked my email throughout the next several days. People have been shouting at me to check out some links. I have actually seen a couple of stories that I sent shouts out to all of my contacts. That probably is not a good thing to do to often, and when I do, I need to be certain it is a Digg worthy site.

This week, I have been going through the top Digg stories and adding people that have made good comments on stories. For example, I was just going to Digg the Plastic Ocean article, but found that it was already submitted. The one person who made a comment that was really relevant, I added.

So its that easy to add people to your Digg network. Of course many of the people I contacted did not return the favor and add me as a friend. But that is fine.

I also was going through Digg and making comments on some top stories. After which, I would frequently get an email notifying me that I had a new fan. I would then check their profile out and add them as a friend.

At the beginning of the week, I had maybe 5 people in my network, currently I have 28. I think that is a pretty nice gain for three days.

Got a story you need Dugg, let me know I will check it out. I can’t guarantee front page yet, but I can get you at least a few Diggs. Work on your network, and mine and yours might add up.

Or you can do as Stephen from Vandelay Web Design does and utilize second tier Social Networks to set up a Domino affect and push your posts up to the front page. But having a little network of your own, that gives you a little something to bring to the table.

I started this post just to talk about the shout feature which was recently added to Digg, but ended up being more about creating a network on Digg. I myself think the Shout feature is a great way to communicate with your Digg friends, however I have heard that true Diggers don’t.

What do you think? Do you like the Shout feature? Are you going to work on your Digg network? Give me a shout. I promise, I’ll give you a shout back.

Update:Steven asked me in the comments below about my Digg profile. I am EmperorAnton on Digg, which is a Star Wars reference that a friend started referring to me, so no I don’t have illusions of grandeur.
