Steven of Vandelay Website Designs was the top commentator for the month of September. He recently did a post about Blog Contests where Steven asked Sarah of BlueJar, Adnan from Blogtrepreneur, Darin from Darin.cc , and Daniel from Daily Blog Tips four questions about their recent blog contests. Each of the bloggers has some really good advice about holding a contest on your blog. I suggest giving the post a read if you are thinking about holding similar contests on your blog.
While I am on the subject of contest, before running a contest on your blog, I would also give David Airey’s post How I reversed My Google rank Penalty a read. As the result of holding a contest, where in David asked for links back to his site with specific link text, he received a penalty from Google. This post tells what steps David took to reverse the penalty.

In addition to Steven, the other top Commentators for September are listed below. Much as I did for last month, I would like to do a review post for each of the three top commentators. So Michael and Sarah, let me know if you have a post that you would like featured. And Steven, I hope you didn’t mind sharing the spot light with David, but his post just seemed to relate so well with your Blog Contest post.

Thanks for recommending my post. You’re right, David’s post is a very good addition. That’s definitely something to consider before running your own contest.

I was thinking of running a similar contest to promote my blog, but glad I didn’t having seen what happened to David Airey. Google thinks they’re the link police now.

I think you can still run contests, you just can not ask for links back in an outright manner or asking for particular link text.
It does seem like they are turning into a type of link police.

The idea behind the group writing project for me was to not just ask for links to my blog and I think it did well and I would recommend anyone doing that too!
