Blog Action Day-Reduce Your Environmental Footprint

Blog Action Day has gotten here so quickly. It seems like the Blogging Against Abuse blogging event was just here. How time flies.

Checking out my Environment category, I see that I have six articles under the category, and of the five, only four could be considered to be true environmental posts.

  1. My last environmental post was Fear the Plastic Ocean, which is a post about the Plastic Ocean article. Check it out to find out how serious the problem of plastic really has become.
  2. The Carbon Emissions Reduction plan was a post that was done as a response to the newsletter from Co-Op America, a Non-profit environmental organization.
  3. The Rubber Mulch post was a review of the site ClosetheLoop.com, which is a green company that sells products that are made from recycled materials. The big seller for the company is the rubber mulch which is mulch that is made from recycled tires. I also get their newsletter, which is where I found out about the Plastic Ocean article.
  4. A site review of Itscarma.com, which is a site that seeks to educate commuters in order to reduce urban gridlock. Itscarma.com has some pretty cool information, and some groovy use of Flash technology to convey its mission.

So four environmental posts for the last year out of 158 posts is a little more than two percent of all of the posts here on Pixelheadonline.com. This will not do. I vow that I will do a least one environmental type post at least once a month. This could be in the form of site reviews, product reviews, or anything else.

So my environmental goals:

  1. Do one environmental post per month.
  2. Continue to seek out employment opportunities that allow me to telecommute, thereby reducing my carbon footprint.
  3. Become more aware of environmental issues by reading and becoming involved in more environment related blogs. Start this by exploring the Blog Action Day resources page.
  4. Conserve resources when ever possible, ride a bike instead of driving, turn off electricity, conserve water, practice the 3rs.

I know this is not much, but it is a beginning. If you did a post for blog action day, let me know about it, and I will check it out.

Update:List of posts for BlogActionday that I have come across or have left comments here.

  1. Came across Anja Merret’s post this morning on Digg. Duh I did not realize it was today while I was reading her BlogActionday post. Thanks Anja for being the first one I read today.
  2. I then read Alex’s Environmental Wellness Principle post, and had the sense to go onto the Blogactionday site, where I had a V8 Moment and said wow its here.
  3. FreelanceFolder.com did How Can We Helpf Save the Earth. Jon has a list at the end with a bunch of great BlogactionDay posts.
  4. I started a BlogActionDay group on Blogcatalog, so please stop in and let us know about your post.

  6. Laketrees has two posts listed on the group - http://laketrees.blogspot.com/2007/10/overpopulation.html and http://poeartica.blogspot.com/2007/10/population-explosion.html.

A Group Writing Project Contest

One of Pixelheadonline’s top commentators for September, Sarah of Bluejar.com had run a Group writing project last month and had such a good time doing it that Monika of TheWritersManifesto decided to do a similar Group Writing project contest this month.

I found out about the contest, because Sarah had included both of our blogs on the Jar Full of Links post on Friday. I had just published a post teaching how to add a blog to your list of blogs on Flickr post, and Monika said that it was a perfect entry, and I was entered…sweet you got to love that. Especially since I had wanted to enter Sarah’s group writing project, but was not able to come up with an entry. I really do manage to get writers block when I try and force it…know what I mean.

There are currently 43 responses on the contest post, so it sounds like she is getting a really good response.

What Can You win?

  1. Potentially win $50.
  2. A month long advertising spot at the top of Thewritersmanifesto.
  3. A site review on TheWritersManifesto with hyperlinks with desired keywords.
  4. Meet some cool people via the contest.

Want to enter?

  1. All you have to do is write a tutorial post, and it doesn’t need to be anything spectacular. Take a look at mine, I am sure you can do better than that.
  2. After you write your post, contact Monika via a link in her writing project post and let her know where it is located. Thats it.

Ten ideas for a tutorial post.

  1. How to write a piece of code.
  2. How to write a great piece of link bait.
  3. How to make a meal.
  4. How to use a type of software.
  5. How to use a site like Myspace, Facebook, Digg, etc
  6. How to meet women or men.
  7. How to write a business plan.
  8. How to take a good picture.
  9. How to draw a face.
  10. How to paint a room.

These are just ten ideas for posts, and I am sure you can come up with at least a dozen more of your own.

What “How to post” are you going to write?

Some Diggs Last Week

I had a really weird week has just past. I was lucky to get two posts in on Thursday. Were the time went I have not a clue.

I did do quite a bit of Digging, and I now have over 75 friends in my Digg network. I have learned that I need to not respond every time I get a shout from a fellow Digger. Although I do admit I found more than one groovy post. Here are some of the Diggs that I noted.

Have a good week, and stop by and say hi. If you have a site you want me to Digg, let me know, I’ll try and check it out.
