Canon S5 IS

Posted by Pixelhead

Prior to going on our trip to New Orleans, Lizzie got me a Canon S5 IS Digital camera, which is the camera that I had been canon-s5.jpgchecking out at the local stores. The Canon S5 IS is a medium sized camera, at just below a pound and maybe an inch shorter in length than Canon’s Rebel. The S5 has lots of great features that make it a solid camera that does not require the purchase of extra lenses. Throw in the 4 AA batteries and you are ready to take pictures. The camera also comes with a 32megabyte SD memory card, but I swapped out the 2gig memory card in my other camera. Note:Must remember to reformat the card.

Features I have used thus far include:

Well at any rate, there are lots of cool features on the S5 that should keep me busy for quite a while.

Check out the New Orleans Picture set to see the photos I took with the Canon S5 IS.

If you have an S5 or another camera that you love, let me know. What features of your camera do you love or hate?

I was looking for reviews on the camera and found your blog :) I’m currently thinking of buying…. Would you be able to post some pictures taken with it?

Great, well if you are buying, the Canon S5 IS gets great marks from me. At present I don’t have a link up to any Camera stores so you are on your own.

If you are looking for a camera that has a bunch of advanced features, but does not require additional lenses, it is a great camera.

Great find! I have to say I am tempted to buy this camera. Holds a lot of memory and would perfect for my picture taking. Not only that, it is quite small, weighing less than 1lb.

DD, It does come with a rather small memory card, so I would suggest buying at least a 1 gig memory card as well.

looks like a really nice camera. My wife got a coolpix s550 for christmas and really likes it. then my mom went out and got the same one but different color. For simple everyday photos, it works great.

I bought my wife a great canon rebel slr kit. She loves it. The Rebel line is easy to use. As we get better taking pictures with it, we’ll plan to upgrade to one of the more professional ones with more options.

The IS will definitely help you with the blur (as long as they are coming from your hand shaking because of the slow exposure), but I highly doubt that the digital noise will disappear with the cannon S5 IS. The cannon S5 IS use a 1/2.5″ sensor which is pretty common in other pocket camera, and it’s one of the reason why you see digital noise in low light situation.

I’m looking to upgrade my digital camera, but I’m not quite ready to make the investment in a DSLR. Out of the cameras I’ve seen the Canon S5 IS seems like an affordable alternative that will provide me the freedom I’d like
