The Library of Congress and Flickr

The Library of Congress is doing a pilot program with Flickr, which is called The Commons, and involves having Flickr users go through over 3000 photos from the Library of and tag and make comments. The photos have a unique copyright called “no known copyright restrictions.”

Environmental post January 2008

Here are some environmental sites, pages and stories that I noticed over the last month.

• Watch a cool Youtube video about a bike that cleans water as it is ridden.
  
• Will shiny plants help us to beat global warming?

• The Real Cost of Bottled Water
• I came across the post Japanese Wind Power Efforts Head Offshore on EcoWorldly.com. Sounds like a pretty good idea to put windmills on the ocean. Hopefully those sea gulls won’t be running into the propellers. With a bunch of windfarms and wave parks, we will be generating a lot of watts from the ocean.
• Gengreen.org, seeks to create a place to connect green businesses in the US.
• Check out Wired Magazines 1 Gallon of Gas, 100 Miles — $10 Million: The Race to Build the Supergreen Car
• Also from Wired, check out the Eco Wash from Pratt & Whitney that is used to wash Jet engines at $3,000 to $5,000 a wash. Care to invest in a jet washing business?

Nature Photography

• A local photographer that I recently became aware of has some pretty awesome Photos. Lizzie and I were at the local Dairy Queen, and Mike Fisher has some sample photos in a three ring binder along with his note card there. I think that is a pretty cool offline marketing technique that does not involve much cost or time. Mike also blogs at The Photography and Travel Place, which is a relatively new blog, but from the looks of Mike’s experience, will be teamed with lots of great photography information.
• Check out Forrest’s One Square Inch in The Rainforest to learn about a piece of North America that is in jeopardy.
