Hublove Contest at Hubpages.com

As you can see in the side bar, Hubpages is having a contest with a prize worth over $5000 thanks to Mashable who is the major sponsor of the contest.

The winner of the contest, who happens to be the Hubber with the most points, will get a bunch of stuff that totals more than $5000.

How do you get points?

Be the first to answer each day’s clue which also determines the topic of the Hubs for the day. Each day a clue will either be on the Hubpages contest page or on a host blog.
Write up to 10 Hubs on the days clue.
Have the best hub for the theme of the day.

Pixelheadonline will be hosting a clue on Monday March 10th, and I will be picking the final winner for the day as well. And of course since I am judging on that day, I will not be able to submit any hubs.

What is Hubpages?

Hubpages is an online publishing network that allows authors to easily create web pages and earn revenue from advertsing options such as Adsense, Amazon, or eBay. I first learned about Hubpages several months ago when an SEO client asked me about creating a page or two for some of his keywords. I actually assisted him to create several pages that allowed him to remain at the top of the SERP’s for his desired keywords.

What I like about Hubpages.com

Hubpages has a growing social community that is really very nurturing and helpful.
Authors are always eager to give advice about Hubpages tools and writing in general.
Many Hubbers as they are called have earned significant incomes from their Hub pages.
Hubpages can be used as advertising for your current site. Create a hubs that deal with your keywords and point them to your pages. However, Hubs should be real resources, not spam.
Your feed can be placed on any hub, which will give your blog or site more exposure.

What I Dislike about Hubpages.com

The tools you use to create hubs are somewhat limiting. I like the ability to actually go in and edit the source code, access to the code does not exist. If you are a person who has no experience with html this is good, since you are unable to use it anyway. For those of us who are use to the flexibility it is somewhat limiting.
Much like using other free platforms, hubpages are not really yours to do with as you wish, guidelines do exist and must be followed.
The only videos that they allow to be embedded are Google or YouTube videos.

As of the writing of this post, here is a list of my current Hubbs which were written for the contest.

I like it I will have to do some more research to see if this is something new I can take on. Does it bring you traffic and $$$?

Also how did you get in to become a judge?

I have heard that Hubpages rank well, which could really help you out if you put a link on say a real estate related hub to your real estate site. Just be careful in your linking. Hubs must be real resources, not spam. You might want to make a few hubs up, and point them to one hub which points to your site.
To get involved with it, I just contacted them at the beginning of the contest to see if they needed any hosts.I need to be available for two days, and the clue needs to be posted at exactly 12pm on Monday March 10th. Then I will need to read a handful of hubs to select the top one for the day.

I set up my hub page. Pretty cool thing just like squidoo huh. I could find my hub when I searched for it but I did read something that said it needed two day to collect data. Thanks for introducing this. I didn’t spam I write a lot about real estate so I can publish those articles and I think they are quality information that hub users can utilize.

This seems interesting, but since i’m already on a contest I will need to focus on it. I will spread the word to my friends.

It does seem to be a very time intensive contest. The people that are in the lead seem to be students that have lots of time for writing. The top guys seem to pump out the hubs. Must be nice to be that prolific.
The contest does have some nice authority behind it, with Mashable as the primary sponsor. Another authority, who was one of the hosts was the Successful Blogger Liz Strauss. So I think the Hublove contest really has some nice backing.
But even better, I think the contest is really helping out my writing. Every day during the contest there is a new topic to write on. I often get my wife to check out my writing, and her critiquing my writing has been really helpful. The idea that I really need to preview before I publish has really been sinking in during the contest. So all in all, even if I don’t win, I think it will be a great experience.
But as you say, you need to focus on the current contest…focus is really important.

I am not in the contest, but I appreciate you being a fan. I redid the page since I realized that I had one big comment and not a discription. Is there a way to link the hub with squidoo then point at my website? I’ll have to look into it.

But thanks for always being helpful and all the extra things you have do for me and my site!!!!! Not that you need any help I will find something to do to return the favor.

You could add a links field at the bottom and link it to your Squido page.
Try not to use to many links in your hub…I had one flagged because I used to many links…oops.

This contest will surely attract all the college student. even the prize is good. i strongly suggest all writers and student to take parts in the contest.

I keep getting emails that you are creating new hub pages. Here is an interesting thing I read/watched on a blog I visit. It talks about link relationships. I think this can be quite useful to you.
