Does the Mybloglog Update remind you of Facebook?

Posted by Pixelhead

I was just on Mybloglog, and the page layout has changed. According to the Mybloglog Blog, they revamped the page to make room for the Whats New With You? section. Pixelhead Mybloglog Screenshot

This change reminds me of Facebook were all your peeps friends can see what you have been up to. From what I can tell you can set the What’s New With You? section so that it shows either your updates to include blog posts,Tweets, or any other services you may have added to be displayed. You can also opt to show either your updates or your entire communities updates, which is what I currently have the PixelHead Buzz page set to.

Looking at the comments in the Update post on the Mybloglog blog, the responses to the change by the Mybloglog User community are both good and bad. For me, the new layout gets a thumbs up.

How do You Like the New Mybloglog Layout?

I didn’t even think about the fact that it compares to Facebook this way…You’re right! I am definitely giving it a thumbs up myself. Me like. *-)

Well – as it seems there is no new content on the internet, especially on many new sites, and everything is just cloning itself from one site to the next… what do you expect?

I haven’t been too crazy about MyBlogLog since they changed over to Yahoo! IDs. I maintain separate MyBlogLog and Yahoo! accounts, so it drives me nuts to switch back and forth.

As for the new changes, it seems like major information overload to me. There are just some things you don’t need to know about the people you’re interacting with.

It definitely does. The same way MySpace turned into a FaceBook.

I hope there will not be a future where all social networking sites will look the same.

It does have some of the same looks and in some ways I think the new feature will be of interest to many myself included.

It does look a little like Facebook, and kinda like the new look of linkedin too! does this layout have any aesthetic or SEO benefits that you, Linkedin, and Facebook know about and aren’t telling us?

Blogcatalog just went through an almost identical switch a few days before this.

@JSnarkYes – I am not aware of any SEO benefits for having the community updates being posted on the various networks, but I think it serves to share what other members are doing. I know that I have visited more than one friends blog which I noticed was updated when an update appeared in one of these sites update stream.
Stephan, I noticed the Blogcatalog update too, but forgot to post about it…thanks for the reminder.

I like the new MyBlogLog layout … especially when people are showing their activity on del.icio.us, digg, stumbleupon, etc. It’s nice to know what people are interested in, beyond just what they post on their blogs.
