The Story of Stuff

Posted by Pixelhead

Paul from Newhomessection.com just sent me a link to The Story of Stuff. If you go to the site, you can see a 20 minute video about the life cycle of stuff. The video below is just 1 little video that is several minutes long. I would suggest going to the site to view it in its entirety.

Be sure to stop in and read the Story Of Stuff Blog as well.

Cool, thanks for the tip! I finally got embedded videos working in Firefox again, so I’m free to check things like this out again.

The videos, both the short version and the longer one, as well as the blog are all worth following regularly by people concerned about our earth and its future.

That brief video was enough to get my engines cranked up. Thanks for sharing it. I’m headed over to see it in full. :-)

Kim, I just left you a message on Facebook. I was on the blog yesterday, and was on the post about NXT a shaving gel that uses 3 AAA batteries to light up the package to make it look pretty. Annie, who is in the video, mentions at the bottom of the post that the NXT has a blog, and she links to it. The company, however, must have made the link redirect to the home page. She really ought to remove it or at the very least make it a “No Follow”. I tried leaving a comment, and emailing them but I had no luck.

It’s funny that you should find this today. I was reading a blog post earlier that sells handbags.

Don’t get me wrong, the article made good points. The theme for the post used an ‘ethical overtone’ in order to optimize their branding / marketing strategy, which is UNETHICAL at best. (how celebs spend gazillions on handbags, yet claim to be environmental activists in their various charitable activities)

This kind of reminds me of a routine Jerry Seinfeld did, but it has its own unique points.

Loved the video. George Carlin (rest in peace) also has a funny riff on people’s stuff.

I did not realise that the top companies are sizeable compared to governments, considering taxes come from these corporates. There is so much more that goes into making stuff, then its what happens to the stuff when it is thrown away. How much stuff is there actually as we continue to make it and there is only so much stuff before we started making new stuff.

Beautiful post Pixelhead! I like that with this post, more people will perhaps become aware of how our own consumerism is starting to really bite us in the behind. We need to educate ourselves on these matters, unless we want to really destroy our world for our kids.

I would highly recommend to anyone that they continue on and listen to the remainder of the videos.

Thank you Pixelhead for posting this!
