Flickr 365 Days

Posted by Pixelhead

A little over a week ago, I started participating in the 365 Days Flickr group, which is a group where you take a picture of yourself everyday for a year, and post it to the group. The picture has to be one that you take yourself, and it must contain at least some part of your body. One lady who made a comment on my very first pic, who is also in the group, also started doing head shots of herself, and is keeping those in a separate set of pics. You can only submit one pic per day, so make sure it is a good one. Oh, and porn is not acceptable.

I think the idea of taking pictures of yourself over a year, is a pretty cool idea. It will allow you to take pictures of yourself, and after a year, you can look back and see how you have changed over the year. It will also be a good record of some of the things that you have done over that year.

I think it would be a great idea if some of the people that visit this blog, would do this as well. But hey, not everybody minds having their picture taken and posted online.

Well how about this, if you don’t want to take part in the 365 days group, how about posting a single picture of yourself here, as I think it would be pretty cool to place a face with the comments. If this is something you are not opposed to, please use img tags and post a pic in a comment below. <img src=”url”> is the code to use if you are willing to post.

If you join the Flickr group, let me know as well.

So what about you, do you mind having your picture taken and posted on-line?

I do indeed. And everyday! I fear that I shall run out of steam a few weeks down the line, even if I ever started!

I guess you really need to be into taking photos to get this done to 100% huh! I think what would be really facsinating is to take a picture, the same picture, each day for a year and then put them in a slideshow with the speed cranked up.

Imaging watching your hair grow! Of course, for you and me both, it would be watching the goatee grow. :)

That is a cool idea though!

It would be hard to do the same pic every day for a year. But the lady that I mentioned in the post, has that basic idea. Here is the link to her SamBoddys Head Shots.

After seeing so many people made fun of for their pictures, I’m hesitant to let something leak online unless I know that I look okay. :) This is a cool idea, though.

What a brilliant marketing idea. Currently I don’t have one picture of myself online. I struggle to take pictures on “those important days”, to do it everyday, that is amazing. Over a year, I think I would be 100 different people as I am changing my style all the time. I think it would be fun.

I’m not confidence enough to have my picture posted, especially close up photo :) . Using image tag maybe better. Aw, you posted good pics there. Especially the one which show you jump and lift your hands :D

I visited the site given in your link. She has got the idea alright, and I do not quite know if she has the patience, but I sure won’t be able to do it. I have serious doubts that you will be able to go the distance.

That sounds like an incredibly fun idea. I guess it could be considered somewhat of a diary, minus all the writing work :) . I’m going to consider doing this myself – I know I’ll get a chuckle going back through the photos once the year is up.

I am indeed pleased that you have owned up. It is hard for me not to say “I told you so!!”

I also like the rest of the comment. Yes, that is all that we can do. Do our best. I wish you all the best. What will you aim for 80%+?

Link Building Bible, that sounds like a good idea. I’ll have to mention it to my wife.

Nicole, No goals, I’ll just take a picture of myself everyday.
If I happen to forget, oh well.
You are aloud to forget one or two here and there without getting kicked out of the group.

I can see some neat things coming out of a project like that, but I also think it borders on being a little bit narcissistic–depending on how it’s handled and why it’s undertaken.

It’s not the posting online part I don’t like, it’s the actual having my picture taken part. I’ve been camera phobic for years! I’m always either the one way in back that you can’t really see or I’ve managed to leave the room altogether.

This idea doesn’t sound to hot. I think it would be weird to post a picture of myself every day for everyone to see. Its a lot like these reality shows everywhere. I just don’t understand how people can have their privacy open for all to see..

I just don’t understand….

I don’t like my pictures to be taken and posted online as I am not photogenic at all, lol. But of cause posting pictures online had been a huge trend especially at social sites, lots of pictures.

Some fear I have is that, other people might take your pictures and do funny picture editing, maybe I am over reacting, I guess.

I like the idea of this. How you managed to take the picture of you jumping yourself is beyond me though lol

I saw a video of a timelapse of a person who took a picture of themself everday. To begin with they were slightly overweight. They then took a picture every day for 8 weeks or so and by the end of it they had an awesome six pack.

I don’t think I’d remember to post every day.

What a great idea. About 1 1/2 years ago I looked at a picture of myself and saw that I was fat. I never noticed that the 25 lbs that I gained looked the way it did. I started working out right after looking at that picture and got in shape. I wonder how many people will look at these pictures of themselves and change their lifestyle.

I agree with what Link building bible, had to say, this would be a great method for somebody who was on a diet, to see their progress from day one, till the end of the year! Especially for someone starting a new year’s resolution :)

Flickr is one of my favourite services, and promotions like these are the kind of things to get people interested and gets them to interact and add value. Thank goodness no porn pics allowed, as people got plenty other avenues to explore if they want to be voyeuristic. Thumbs up to Flickr!

Link building bible had a good idea. I think that would help a lot of people who are in a weight loss program.

I personaly don’t mind to post my picture online. If you’re posting your picture on your blog it makes it much more personal.

So I will start what Adam has asked for if we don’t mind and post my picture on this comment. Maybe some other will follow…

I’ve never been much into picture taking. However I do have friends & family that seem to live by it. After reading this article I went out & visited a lot of them, just to go through their photo albums & compare time frames.

I was shocked at how fast ones appearance changes in the course of 1 – 2 – 3 years. Stunning really, that i couldn’t even identify myself in some of the photo’s :( .

This is also a great a idea to do with a baby, especially if you can be the same distance from the baby for each photo, at the one year mark you can compile them like a cartoon and literally watch the baby grow!

What an excellent group! Where do I sign?

P.s. how did you take that photo of yourself putting that light up? (or whatever it is you’re doing) – the camera seems to be on a slope, therefore I’m sure it couldn’t be sitting on something on timer, could it?

Dan, sorry it took so long to get back to your comment. I use a tripod with my Canon S5 IS, which also has a timer that can be set for 2 seconds, 10 seconds, or I can come up with an entirely individual time as well. Not a huge investment here.

I just came across a 365 Days participant who is taking a picture and blogging about each day for a year leading up to his wedding on July 11, 2009. I’ll be watching this one, as he does some pretty cool stuff with his photos.
