Tagged By Wayne the Old Dude Strikes Again Meme

The originating blog post was ThreeScorePlusTen: Old Dude Strikes AGain (Get Shorty) for the meme that I was tagged. Thanks Wayne.

Check out Waynes Meme post. Since several people have noted that I have not done many posts of late, I thought what the heck.

I also have a policy of not doing more than one meme a month, and have not done one in July so again, what the heck. For the meme, all you have to do is answer some questions and tag five other bloggers.

OLD DUDE STRIKES AGAIN MEME

1) What is your favorite quotable line from a Movie.

“Oh believe me, evil knows evil” Lost In Space …Dr. Smith

(my son use to make me watch it continuously)

2) Who is the most famous person you have spoken to?

Well I had a direct Twitter Conversation with Daryl Hall John Oates of Hall & Oates if that counts.

Through my wife, I met Chris Boggs, who is pretty famous in the SEO world. Chris is an associate editor over at Search Engine Watch Forums, and has written in many of the prominent SEO publications. In addition to all of his SEO credential, Chris is a pretty nice guy.

3) How many bags/boxes of Potato Chips are consumed at your place in a month? The teens eat Maybe 2 or 3.

4) Who is your all time favorite Cartoon Character? Old Buggs Bunny, I am talking the original. Love the BO Stick when Elmer Fudds dog smells BB’s arm pit.

5) What foreign food Dish do you prepare from scratch and Serve? Guacamole

6) What is your favorite section of the Supermarket? Frozen foods…ice cream.

7) What was your high school teams mascot and what were the school’s colors? Cumberland Valley Eagles…red and white

Needless to say, to play the game , one has to A) answer the above questions in a blog posting, B) Identify the (5) who you are going to tag, and C) acknowledge who TAGGED YOU.—-and ooh yeahhh, have a nice day.

I am tagging five of the top commentators for mid July to include seo blog, Link Building Bible, Liz, Davin, Calla, and Goran.

Are you sure you want to admit that about Darryl Hall? :) Thanks for playing along. I won’t go overboard with them, but you may get one here and there from me, but never twice in a month for sure.

I wasn’t a fan of Hall & Oates as a kid, but I wouldn’t turn them off if they came on the radio. It was still pretty cool chatting with him on Twitter.

I’m just razzing ya. I wouldn’t have been caught dead listening to them when I was younger, but they aren’t that bad. Just wasn’t my thang.

I remember the armpit gag. That whole generation of cartoons was pretty violent for back then, yet I don’t recall many people being up in arms over it either. Funny how things can slide under the radar sometimes.

It’s pretty cool that he has a Twitter account! I was born in 1977, and remember Hall & Oats as the background noise of the 1980s … I’ve rarely thought about them since, and I guess I really shouldn’t be surprised that they live in the modern world. But still, it’s interesting to hear that confirmed.

How do you feel about memes in general? I’ve been reading up on the subject lately … it seems very loosely related to SEO, in the same way The Tipping Point was?

Forrest, I am a bit leary of doing a ton of them due to their potential spamminess , but every now and then I don’t mind participating in one. This one was kind of fun any way.

Kim and Wayne, I also found out that Daryl Hall (born Daryl Franklin Hohl) was originally from Pottstown, PA which is about 15 minutes away from me.
Oh, I made a mistake above, it was not Daryl I was talking to, but John.

The curly black haired one, dig it. I’ll throw in my two cents on Forrest’s comment. I think it’s an honor to receive one from someone that frequents a blog. To me, it feels nice that someone would want to tag me.

However, these can get out of control. So I will limit mine to once a month only. If I get some, I’ll queue them and pick one now and then perhaps.

Also, depending upon how many times one has been done could possibly lessen the value of the post on your blog? Not unique enough? Not sure.

I think the real value with these is starting one. I’m watching this post, where this one originated, just spider out, giving him an increase in traffic perhaps. As long as a reference is maintained back to the originator, they should benefit from the added traffic.

Then again, traffic is something, but not everything.

Sorry; I didn’t really ask the question that was on my mind. If you don’t mind, I’ll try rephrasing it, because I’m curious to hear what smart people think.

The Tipping Point is usually called a marketing book … it’s about how word of mouth works. And that’s a hugely important thing to know, for anybody with any interest at all in any type of marketing, social anything, etc. And then there’s the idea of memes ( aka memetics ) that blog memes are based on.

A lot of people frame memes as “non-biological evolution.” The idea is literally that ideas “take over” our minds, and the ones that are good at it, get us to spread them into other minds. When you hear a song that sticks with you, and play it for somebody else, or when you read a book and share the driving concept behind it… That the world is filled with ideas that have what it takes to be spread through the world.

At some level, that’s a metaphor, but it asks questions about what it takes for an idea ( wrapped up in a song … or a blog post ) to be fit enough to survive. I wonder what marketing geniuses think about this notion? Conceptually, is that a good way to describe the world? Does it really follow that our best investment is to hone our message / content / the payload?

Thanks for stopping by Chris. Let us know if we can ever be of assistance.

Forrest, thanks for the great question, hopefully some great minds will stop by and help us out. I think that any type of viral marketing is always desirable. If we have something that we are passionate about, if we can focus on it, hopefully we can then influence others to action as well. This kind of reminds me of the book “The Secret”, which basically says that if you think about something, focus your mind on what you want, not what you don’t want, then it will come to fruition.
Personally, I think memes have a tremendous potential to do a lot of good. Hmm maybe we should start a plastic bag reduction meme or a cloth shopping bag meme…hmmm…thinking about your other comment on The July environmental review post.
