TwitAd.com – Sell ads on Twitter

Posted by Pixelhead

I just came across the TechCrunch post about Twittad. As you know, I am a sellout…sorry, but I am old and need to save for my golden years, and this type of advertising really appeals to me. If you spend time on Twitter, you might as well make some dinero while doing it, right?

twittad-let-your-ad-meet-tweets

So I went right over and signed up to sell advertising on my Twitter. Sign up was pretty easy. They will pay you when your account reaches $20 per month and you must have a minimum number of followers. You can also set your ad price, duration(days, weeks, or up to 3 months).

I was looking for some examples of Twitter accounts that are selling the ads, so I clicked on a couple of the recently sold ads and a I came to MikeTempleton’s Twitter. The MicroBlink ad to the left of Mike’s profile is an example of what

the ads look like. At this point they are just graphic images that don’t have any hyper links. But you just never know what the future holds do you.

Mike also did a pretty good review of Twittad on his MicroBlink blog. While I was on Mike’s Twitter profile, I added him, and he then sent me a direct Twitter message thanking me for adding him. We then preceded to have a little conversation about the Twittad program.

Even though Twittad Ads have no SEO/SEM potential until some links can be placed in the ads, I do think they might have some potential for branding. Anyone want a Coke with that?

By the way, anyone want to buy an ad on my Twitter account..35 bucks a month currently, with 288 followers. Oh, I may throw in a couple of Tweets, Plurks and perhaps a mention in a blog post as well.

What about You?

Do you think selling ads on Twitter or any of your other Social Media profiles is “Selling Out”?

Recently, seems many people making an effort at monetizing twitter. Besides twitad, I have read also about Adjix. Adjix is a new company that acts just like TinyURL by shortening web site addresses making them perfect for Twitter. But, Adjix adds a little banner ad at the top of the site that you visit via their link.

I just haven’t managed to grasp the whole concept of Twitter – have you found it any good in the long run?

Do you use it to help promote this blog? And if so, does it work?

No, it is not selling out. We all have to pay the bills! Anyway, I kind of like the idea. I just wish we could add some text links. :)

Thanks for the write up on Twittad. Your mention of doing Tweets, Plurks and writing about the advertiser in your blog is great! I think more people will begin doing that, which will make the service more attractive for Advertisers.

By the way, when someone sends you a Direct Message on Twitter they see your background image (ad if sold on Twittad) so the advertisers get that “eye-ball” as well.

Twittads does sound like an appealing concept. I’ll go view their site and maybe register.

Adam, Thanks for your comments on Twittad. Also, thanks for following us at Adjix.
We think Adjix will appeal to the same audience as Twittad since it’s been described as a way to monetize Twitter: http://adjix.com/h397

Davin, thanks for letting us know about Adjix, I checked it out briefly this morning, and will be signing up…its now on my todo list.

JBO, I do get some traffic from Twitter and Plurk(the other microblogging site I am using currently). I do use to promote the blog, many times I will post a Plurk or tweet when I publish a post.

FD, perhaps in the future we will see a version of twitter that allows text links…perhaps a premium or sponsored Twitter version…could be some income for Twitter…hmm..

Norhafidz, I look forward to reading your review.

James, thanks for stopping by. Up until now I have not used the DM option that much, but this could encourage me to use it more.

Joe, I’ll be signing up for Adjix today.

I don’t think it’s selling out, but I wonder about how your subscribers might feel about the move. I’ve personally never used Twitter. I tried Plurk, and I realize how time consuming those services can be, thus, I’ve been shying away from them.

I’m sure you’ll let us know how things go on that front though, right? I’d be interested in hearing about your exploits. :)

Thanks for mentioning this, Adam. I just registered with my book_blog Twitter account. I (obviously) don’t think it’s selling out. Or, if it is selling out, then I don’t find selling out offensive.

It doesn’t look like there’s a specific page for your Twitter-er account over at twittad that you can direct people to. Unless I’m missing something….

Thanks Wayne, I’ll do my best.

Debra, yea that could be a problem..You have to click the arrow under current listings, which then gives you an option to search by Twitter user. I am EmperorAnton. I saw book_blog on the front…sweet.

Thanks for the tip. Twitter has been such a headache so far (I am not getting the concept either, like some of us here!), so maybe earning some from it can be the motivation to use it! lol!

I am not savy with the twitter. Not to give up my age but it seems to be for those who have better eye sight and nimble fingers. Thank goodness for options so to each their own.

It’s not a good concept. I think it won’t work out well either, because people just go to see updates on twitter, and they use clients to retrieve the twitter messages too. So it’s not worth it.

It always seems to be a tricky balancing act between providing good content, and an appropriate amount of advertising. There seems to be a prevailing sense amongst internet visitors, that information should be free, and advertising is evil. I think as long as you provide something of value to your visitors advertising is not only fair, but also beneficial to visitors. Whether they’ll admit it or not ;)

I too have signed up at Twitter, but am hearing about Twitad for the first time. Do tell me if the returns are good. Then I might think of signing up as well.

Does it against the rules of twitter, becuase selling links is one of the black hat tactics, do twitter really allow it. IMO, we should not spoil the community to get lil bit income online.

Nah, I don’t think selling ads on anything you produce is selling out. Online marketing is just like any other business, it takes relationships to go anywhere.

Twitter will probably introduce their own ad network anyway, there is no way they can support their growth without introducing some sort of revenue model.

Matt, I agree with you totally. It would be a shame if they did not capitalize on the huge amount of users they have currently. Revenue is not a dirty word..

I love the idea, and would like to hear from others’ experience – do you use this service or not. I’ve never seen it on Twitter live profiles so I guess it is not a great success. any feedback would be appreciated.
