Do You Use Yellow Book?

Posted by Pixelhead

Yellow pages are in most home in the US, but to tell you the truth, I have used them maybe once or twice in the last seveYellow Booksral years. I actually had no idea where they were located in the house, and we actually have both a 2004-2005 Yellow Book and an October 2006 Verizon Yellow Pages.

Thanks for answering the questions in advance. Look for “Yellow Book Now that Has Authority” this week.

For a long time, I kept my yellow pages in case the internet was out and I needed a number. Now that my cell phone has internet access, I don’t need the yellow pages for anything.

We have a similr thing here in the UK = though I think these days the interent is used far more. However I think that older people tend to still rely on it more.

This is why I have chosen to advertise my computer repar business in the local yellow pages – as this is where I will get a lot of business – hopefully

Interesting, you used Google Docs to make that survey? I’m going to have to check that out.

As for the Yeller pages, why? With all the online lookups you can do, is Yellow Pages even viable?

JBO, yea when the demographics of your target audience are older, using the yellow pages is not entirely a bad thing. And if your computer is on the fritz, you might not be able to use the Internet to find a local computer repair shop. I think in your situation though, satisfied customers will be your best bet for advertising.

Wayne, I was looking for a reason to use the Google doc questionnaire. It was actually pretty easy. You might want to do a tutorial on it.
As for the Yellow pages, I do have my reasons…about 300,000+ searches worth..

I use Yellow Pages all of the time. The internet isn’t very complete for local shopping. I know plenty of great contractors who don’t have web sites but have ads in the Yellow Pages. I’m not throwing mine away. I use the internet for info, but I shop out of the book.

Where I stay we have more trouble to find all of the contact information we need online (South Africa). But we have a 411 service that’s much quicker IMO.

And looking for someone to come and do something around the house that you need help with? Ask a friend for a recommendation!

JBO, more than one successful marketer has used two methods for increasing customer referrals. First you should ask for referrals and second you should give incentives for giving referrals such as deep discounts and the like.

Hah, great post. I haven’t used a yellow book in probably a decade. It still cracks me up to see older generations use them (to be honest). The internet is so much more efficient and useful.

I have a phone book at my home and now that I think about it, I wonder why I even have one delivered… I am always plugged in and the internet has all the information that I need.

I’ve never used the Yellow Pages, but I agree with Roger, it’s good for emergencies. Google and Craigslist are easier for me to find whatever I need.

Pixelhead: Great tip – I have certainly been asking for referrals and generally leave business cards with them – I hadn’t considered offering incentives. I must implement this! Cheers!

I use it occasionally to find new business to target as we know that they don’t get that much business and the web will do so much better for them. But do find a tel number or a company hahahaha.
