To take advantage of blog carnivals there is only one condition. You need to have free posts on your site. Informative articles or how to posts work. If you have a blog on your site with posts that also works. If you don’t, then you might want to consider writing free articles. Search engines love fee articles and they will send you a lot of free traffic. You can link to your products or other parts of your website from the bottom of those articles or posts.
Once you have one article, you need to visit Blog Carnival’s website. You can scan all the different Blog Carnivals. Try to find a few carnivals related to your article’s topic. So if you article is about nutrition you would try to find health related carnivals. You basically submit the title and URL of your article to a relevant carnival. The Carnival host generally posts a link to your article on his/her own web site within the next few days.
When that blog carnival host’s visitors see the link, many will click it, especially if the article title entices them. Second when the search engines index the carnival host’s site, they will see the link to your website. This will increase your search engine ranking. In other words your website will start ranking higher in the search engines, and you will start getting more search engine traffic.
Search engines heavily use incoming links to determine the quality of a web site. In other words the websites that rank the highest in search engines generally have lots of incoming links. Blog Carnivals are a great legitimate way to contribute value to others and at the same time increase traffic to your website. Your contributing value by writing quality articles and sharing them with others who might find them informative. Similarly you increase traffic to your website by increasing incoming links to it.

Interesting – though I guess this is only good for blogs.
One question for you – out of all the time you have been doing this – what do you think has given you the best SEO boot out of everything?
Like articel writing, paid directories, freee directories etc? This is just from a SERP point of veiw rather than traffic?
