October Environment Post

Posted by Pixelhead

From Treehugger, 30 Different Ways to Put a Roof Over Your Head…with all the layoffs and the way the economy is people are going to be needing this type of housing…a better class of Hoovervilles?

Speaking of shelter, I came across this site which sells Earth Shelter Technologies…these look like some pretty sweet
Earth friendly homes.

Next, a somewhat sarcastic web page, The Most dangerous Species in the Mediterranean, really reminds me of the Plastic Ocean article again.

DailyTech has a post about “60 Minutes” Catching a Tech Firm Red Handed by exporting tech garbage to China…this article really makes me think about all the computers and cell phones that I have had within the last decade…I wonder were they all are now? Sadly, it also makes me realize that my spending habits do affect others.

The environmental video of the month is the entertaining Blue Man Group  “Earth to America” video.

From Mixx,

Another Treehugger post 7 Electric Motorcycles grabbed my attention and ended by giving me a link to an article that answers the questions “what happens to all those batteries?”.

Check out those cool looking bikes… electric motorcyle

While we are on the environmental category of transportation, I came across an article on a cool new car that runs on air…I seriously doubt we will see these in the US anytime soon, but it looks and sounds like an interesting concept. air car
Lastly, Nicole, one of the top October commentators, has a post about getting Green tax breaks…she has more than a few good tax related links in this post like how to get up to $7500 towards an environmentally friendly car, so check it out.

If you like the October environmental post why not show some appreciation and Digg! and/or Stumbleupon Button …thanks…send in your environmental links for next month by commenting or contacting me on any of the various social networks such as Plurk.

Wow, the links are all mind blowing. The start to 30 Different Ways to Put a Roof Over Your Head… is scary but as one scrolls down, it gets to be quite interesting. The Most dangerous Species in the Mediterranean is again a wake up call. All our oceans are going through this horrendous pollution.

Thanks for the plug in too.

Nuclear power isn’t going to change the amount of oil being consumed. This is guaranteed…

I also found the treehugger article interesting about suggestions to obama on treehugger.

Obama suggestion box full.

Ok, I’m ready to pack it all up and hit the countryside and set up my yurt on some part of land that isn’t incorporated. I mean it. Well….as long as I have internet access it’s feasible.

I really mean it…

I really hope that environmental technology progress much faster and gets incorporated into common things that we use today. That way, we won’t be worrying about oil supplies or oil prices.

Check out this post that I found. It is a solar park (2011) that on a sunny day can produce as much energy as a small nuclear power plant.

You might not be able to tell the difference between a gas powered bike and a battery powered bike from a picture but I bet you can from the sound. As a rider myself I have to wonder how quiet they are as this could make riding even more dangerous. Still it’s definitely a step in the right direction.

I personally think that over-emphasis on global warming is taking focus away for other environmental issues which may end up to be more critical.

How can you say that? Global warming is a huge issue.

Those Earth friendly homes you mentioned reminded me of the bomb shelter where Brendan Fraser was raised in the movie “Blast from the Past”. They lived below earth surface for a long time, and the world has changed a lot since then. Imagine how our environment will look like 30 years from now if global warming worsen.
