Social Bookmarking with Delicious

I am still on vacation in OBX, and will be posting on the Social Bookmarking series starting next week. When I started working on the intial post Social Bookmarks post, I found this video from CommonCraft.com…love their videos…the first one I remember watching is the Twitter video.

This video is a good one for Social Bookmarking, more precisely it seems to be a good video for Delicious, which just turned 5 and has over 5.3 million users and over 180 million web pages added..

With 5.3 million users, if you could manage to get a page listed and voted enough, your site could show up in the delicious search results and get a really nice traffic boost.

The tutorial is very useful but for a site like mine, its usefulness is limited.
I shall however try it out to get a hang of it and see where it takes me.

This sounds like another great way to get more traffic to your site, I’m going to try it this weekend and see if my triffic increases over the month, and thanks to your helpfull guide, it should be a breeze to set up.

my biggest problem w/social networking is that my readership generally knows zilch about it.

I’ve posted a “how to” in the past, but the response was “I don’t have time to create an account – or – I don’t do that enough to create an account”.

Any thoughts on how to get your readership more engaged?

Guitar Teacher, you should try visiting sites like Blogcatalog or Mybloglog to find other like minded bloggers that would get involved in the Social sites. Use a bit of keyword research when you get on to the sites…for instance using Mybloglogs search tool, put in Music teacher to find some related blogs to network.

Paul, we are strictly word of mouth…accounts still seem to be coming out of the walls.

I added you as a friend, but I’ve had pretty much no luck with social media yet. Doesn’t seem to do you any good unless you already have a bunch of visitors that frequently bookmark, digg, ect. your material. : {

After a few encounters with Stumble I found great surges and traffic with virtually no click through rate. I’ve been a little disgruntled with social sites since. Is there a different way to monetize this traffic?

I use delicious mainly to share bookmarks between 3 different computers I use frequently, never really had thought too much of the social aspects of it I guess, hehe. I should dig into delicious a little more

You can get a lot of backlinks if you social bookmark your sites with the biggest social bookmarking sites. Delicious is on of my favourites… MisterWong only like a ‘ping’ because of “nofollow”.

I agree. Great video. It explains in very simple terms (and simple illustrations) what social bookmarking is, what it is useful, and how to get started.

Another great video by common craft. I love their easy to understand videos. I use delicious sometimes, but I prefer stumble upon.

I’ve heard a lot about delicious but I haven’t gotten around to using it yet. Right now I’m pretty occupied with Stumbleupon, but with stumblers, some visit are only for 1 second. Literally. Maybe delicious will yield better results for me.

I social bookmarked with Stubmbleupon and once I was on the front page of StumbleUpon which generated about 500 visitors for me. If you get lucky like that it can really get things going for you.

Trying to get traffic to your web site can seem like a daunting task. It takes a lot of time and patience to see results. The hardest part is not giving up. I like the video and will try that approach.

Delicious is one of the top social bookmarking sites, in my opinion. I also like digg but i think a lot harder to get traffic from it.

Jage, I think its alright to post your own blog links occasionally, but I would make sure to concentrate on other great resources. Maybe bookmarking for some peeps in your network, and then asking them to bookmark for you in return. Weekly networking groups where everyone agrees to take action on other members requests work well.

I found that Stumble and Digg do better for my site. I haven’t used Delicious before. But, overall, I found that Twitter works the very best because you are interacting with 1,000s of people on a daily basis and you don’t have to do much but link to your post and people will read it. If they like it they will do the advertising.
