Do You Have Any Twitter Tips? Heres Two Twitter Tips

Posted by Pixelhead

Here are several Twitter tips for you.

Twitter tip nuggets:

Do you use the @feature to make friends?

I get tons of people who add me on Twitter, and I would gladly add them as well. However, I get so much email everyday, that when I get a notification that someone has added me, many times I won’t get back to check out the persons profile and add them. If you want me to add you, send a tweet out using @emperoranton. Make sure to say something original, insightful and/or helpful. @EmperorAnton your great, please add me is nice, but if I visit your profile and you have no updates, and are following 2000 other people, I probably will not be following you in return. If you want me to add you, try re-tweeting one of my tweets using the format “rt @EmperorAnton{copy and paste a tweet from my stream}. Use the @feature, and you will surely make lots of friends. But please don’t do it in a spammy sort of way. Sincerity and originality are appreciated greatly.

How do You Search Twitter?

Sure you can use the search feature at the top of the page by clicking the “find people” link, but that will only enable you to search for account users. You can also use the search bar on the side bar, which will give you the same results as search.twitter.com, which is the Twitter search tool I prefer to use. I like having the ability to create a search for any given phrase, and then being able to use the feed for that query for what every purpose you may want.

One last nugget not included in the video.

Check out Twittapp.com which is a great little site that has several sweet Twitter applications that will allow you to get email notifications when someone follows or un-follows you, and also when someone ats you or uses your user name with the at symbol.

How about you?

My twitter tip is this: ban twitter in your router’s settings and never visit it again. Seriously that’s what I had to do to battle the addiction. Now whenever I want to visit twitter I need go to my router’s settings, unban it and all that stuff. And it just takes so much time that I’m not “casualy” checking twitter when I’m bored.

Good tips – I’ve been experimenting with Twitter and tried following people, with some success, but I’ve not tweeted them. I may try doing that next to see how much better the results could be.

A useful tip is to find another Twitterer that’s similar to you (e.g. if you sell widgets, find some other people that also sell widgets) and then follow the people they’re following as they could well be interested in following you back.

RT absolutely rocks :) I initially used to RT without the @username syntax and later realized that @ would notify the original guy as well.

I don’t think I have ever added someone who just randomly added me. Most of the times I added people when one of my existing ‘friends’ retweets someone’s message.

@ messages are cool, I have notified popular bloggers about their blogs having problems and was surprised to get a kind response back. :)

Jeet, Twitter really amazes me how it allows you to have access to high profile people…that is when they aren’t Ashton who has a million followers.

Sushi, Yea, it does have the propensity of being able to suck your time away. Addictive personalities might want to steer clear. Moderation is a great word.

It always boggled my mind why wouldn’t twitter just install a regular search engine. It can’t be that hard now can it?

I appreciate your tips. Do you have any suggestion about how to separate your personal twitter life (read by friends) from your professional twitter life (read by clients and those in your industry)? Maybe two Twitter profiles is the answer, but that becomes cumbersome.

RT [re-tweeting, copying a link or content with their user name with RT afterwards or before] what another Twitter user said is a good way of letting them know you’re reading and enjoying their content, so they may do the same for you.

Rick, thanks, I’ll be sure to check it out.

Owen,(uninstall toolbar), I’ll check it out as well, and I did add you.

Hotels, just be authentic, don’t try to spam comments…If someone adds me and only has a few updates, the last being over a day ago, I probably will not add them. Give it some time and be consistent in your use.

Aaron, I know people who have numerous twitter accounts( I do as well), but it is quite hard to be really active on more than one. When I am working on a site, that is when I activate the twitter account for it, and post a tweet or two. You could also add your feeds to the secondary twitter accounts to have them populated more frequently.

Note: Just checked out Balkhis post the http://www.balkhis.com/twitter/ultimate-guide-to-retweet-for-twitter-users/” rel=”nofollow”>Ultimate Guide to Re-tweet for Twitter…I highly recommend you check it out.

actually I don’t follow users most of the time who follows me because most of the time a person follows me is already following 1000 of people and expect me to follow them too , and I really don’t like that , in the same way if I follow anybody I don’t expect them to follow me

I have only recently signed up for twitter. It looks like fun. Actualy it was a part of an event on another site and to participate I needed an account. But I guess I might just use it even after the even ends.

One of the best Twitter tips I can give is to use the power of Twitter Search. Search for topics in your niche – and offer advice and get in on the conversation. This is definately how’ve I’ve increased my participation on Twitter ten-fold.

Well, twitter provides access to a LOT of celebrities at the same time, before this people had to follow each individual blog. Also not all celebrities were good at writing but 140 characters don’t require much literary skills.

Unlike usual social networks, twitter allows me to just follow (without friending), I guess that’s just great for celebrities. Even digg and flickr have it but they have completely different content :)

You have to make sure the file size is not bigger than 700k and is jpg, gif, or png formatted. After you click save one time and it does, navigate back to your Twitter home page and it should be up.
For more info, read any of my previous posts and you can also try Googling “How to use Twitter”.

I got your point why you are refusing those following you without their profile updated, very annoying. It is important to know first those users with same interest of yours and following users just to have many followers is a kind of useless thing and really annoying. I do search friends by keywords.

My tip to get a lot of followers for target topics is to use http://www.twollow.com/
You can only use this when you have more than 50 updates. Enter a keyword and twollow will automatically follow people that have that keyword in their profile and conversation. This tool is free and works very nicely so far.
