OMS Chicago and BaldyDog.com

Posted by Pixelhead

This past week we were in Chicago for OMS(Online Marketing Summit) which we both enjoyed tremendously, and would highly recommend anyone who has an interest in online marketing attend.  This is not going to be a thorough review of OMS, as we are getting ready to fly out in several hours.

Check out the post I did on the All-Travel-Sites blog about our Chicago Trip.

New Design for BaldyDog.com

Baldy Dog Logo

We also just had our main business site BaldyDog.com redesigned.  Stop in and check it out and let us know what you think about it.

There will be a ton of changes happening on that site in the upcoming weeks to include the installation of a new SEO Blog. WordPress is installed on the site, but it has zero activity and just the basic template.

Looking at the newly designed BaldyDog and let us know what you think of the new design.  Do you have a groovy WordPress template that you would recommend we use?

I’ve wondered whether OMS was a good use of time. Would you care to share what, in particular, you appreciated about it and what you got out of it?

Aaron, it was very un-sales like. The presenters were aloud to mention their company only one time. All of the sessions were packed with info. I will be doing a more in depth review post soon.

What a great looking design. Now I haven’t seen the old one but this one looks great. Can I ask how you came up with that name? :)

Mikael, back eons ago, I had started a bicycle touring equipment business and I registered the name of the site as Baldy and Dog(I am bald and have a dog) it came back Baldydog. I thought huh…sounds good, why not. When I met my wife some years later, she liked the name and it stuck.

So now I’m not going to ask what it is that your wife calls “baldydog”… :)

But I like the name too and its a cool logo you have.

So you have turned it from being a bicycle business into a search marketing business. That is quite a shift.

Mikael, I am bald most of the time. I try not to be too much of a dog though…
Well, I have been into marketing for sometime…there was a lot of time and numerous other businesses/ventures between the bicycle touring equipment co and the online marketing company we run today.

I guess I can see the point of keeping the domain but I could also see potential confusion from customers and online searchers if a site starts off by selling something about bikes, then changes into something different and ends up being a SEO business :)

I had never had a site on the domain at that time..stupidly, I had a subdomain off of a scam business that preyed on people looking to make a living on line. I won’t give their name here, as I don’t want to give them press of any kind. And truthfully, the bicycle touring business never really took off.

Wow.. they must have been great salespeople if they could get you to buy a domain without putting a site on it.

BTW can I ask you if you remember what your biggest struggle was about getting a site on that site? I’m in the middle of creating a product and your comments could be of great value.

Thanks,
Mikael

Oh, it was a big scam..one of those things were they get you to come to a free lunch. Way too much hype..but it worked. They didn’t get me to buy a domain they just sold me a website package which included a year of hosting, tech support and all.

The biggest struggle with that was the awkwardness of their system and my lack of knowledge. Those types of people pray on people who have hope, desire, and a credit card, but no knowledge.

With your new product, just do your due diligence, keyword research and use your networks to test every thing from domain name to website layout.
Good luck, and let me know if I can be of assistance.

The new site looks great! I love the dart board. Did you guys have your own designers create this, or is there a site out there that lets you purchase these designs?

Pixelhead, I’m glad to hear there was a limit on how much the presenters can try to sell their products/services. I get tired of attending events only to find out that the presenter is selling some “coaching” or information product, and the presentation is intended to wet your appetite.

Is this your second SEO seminar of all time or have you been to these before? I have heard of a free seminar June 17th – 20th in Denver Colorado. Put on by affiliateconvention dot com

Yes, it was the second SEO type conference I had been to. Lizzie has gone to a couple of others while she was working for some of the big agencies in Philly. She said this was by far the best she had been to.

Very Good Colour selection and soothing to the eyes.

Just 1 Suggestion: If you want visitors to take action and become client, have a prominent “contact me form” or a “phone number”, may be below the Logo..

BaldyDog.com – I like the design but my layman opinion is that there are a bit too many colors, at least on the first page. A site looks more professional to me if it only uses two or three colors. Otherwise it looks nice and it’s really easy to get around on the site.

Excellent image. I disagree with some of the comments above and think it has an excellent color distribution – don’t change it!

I like your use of colour myself. The site is very easy on the eye. The only question I have is why is the chops of the dog in your Baldy Dog logo green?

Great site design! Lovely colors thought you should have used something different instead of the green dog chops.
