How to write articles – To Build Links for Internet Marketers

Posted by TheDigitalArchives

A great way to promote your online business is via article marketing. This involves writing articles to submit to article directories. Learning how to write articles to promote your internet based business will be an invaluable skill to have.

It’s a straight forward process. You write good articles on your niche and include a bio with a link or two back to your site in the resource box.  Then you submit these articles to article directories.

The quality of your article will determine how much traffic you receive and whether Google and other search engines are impressed. It is recommended that the articles you submit to article directories are newly written. With other words avoid re-using the same articles from your site.

Although it is good to write articles on your particular topic or niche in which you are marketing, it is better to approach the articles you wish to submit using a more broader approach.

As an example, if your blog income is based on marketing a particular diet product your articles could be on the broader topic of living a healthy life. Your aim is to attract a larger readership base than just those who might be interested in the product you are selling.

Article directories have a stream of readers interested in a range of topics. Your articles end up being read a surprising number of times.

But what is even better than the number of readers it that it your articles are read over a long period of time. This is contrary to a blog where mostly the newest articles receive the immediate traffic. Thereafter articles are at the mercy of search engines to receive further air time.

Each time your article is read you have the chance that the reader might be interested enough to click on the link to your site which is shown in the resource box at the end of the article. This allows for a possible constant stream of traffic to your site.

Besides the regular readers who use article directories for information or entertainment, article directories are also used by non-writing website and blog owners to source articles for their sites.

They are allowed to use them on their own sites in exchange for including your bio with live links. As a source of links this can be invaluable. And it requires no further effort on behalf of the internet marketer.

However, probably the most valuable part of this exercise and what makes it really worthwhile for internet marketers to submit articles to directories is the backlink the directory itself provides to your own site.

Most of the well established article directories such as Ezinearticles or Go Articles have a high PageRank. Having a link back from their site to your blog or website has high value for you the internet marketer.

Learning how to write articles for submission to directories is an excellent marketing strategy for the internet marketer. As an article writers who is developing an online business with the aid of good content you will certainly miss out on a golden opportunity if you do not make this part of your marketing strategy. That does seem to be a very nice way of garnering links, authority & traffic. Is there any way that you can make sure that the site using your articles is not too far out of your niche?

I never get enough traffic from article marketing. I guess what I don’t like about article marketing is that it takes so long for your articles to get published. Plus, most article directories try to sneak in the nofollow tag which doesn’t have much SEO benefit. I guess you could try the bum marketing method, but the traffic won’t last long, as Google will just de-index articles beause of duplicate content.

Article writing can be really dificult sometimes, my advice is based on personal experience: first you search for blog posts and articles online, than you see what you have to tell and hasn’t been told already by someone else. Then you make a quick plan and just write till you reach the finish line:).

Funny thing, I was once offered a chance to get a part in such a course, but then I though: hey, I know how to write, right ? what more do I do ?
Well… as it turned out I wasn’t as good at it as I thought ;) Writing a single 200 word piece is easy. Writing 50 of them, on the same topic .. that’s horror.
So unless all you guys want to pay someone to do it for you, read this blog post again. And again.

When I pay people to write articles for my site, how do I handle the intellectual property? I’m questioning if I would take ownership of the literature and the writer would no longer have any rights to it? Do I have to say who the writer was on the work on the site?

One other thought:

PageRank reflects the score of a specific page and not the entire site. New articles get posted as their own page on the article directory websites. Since that new article will probably start as a PageRank of 0 or simply not ranked, the only way to get the benefit of the article website is any “link juice” that gets carried forward from the parent site to your article.

So, it probably makes sense to use OnlyWire, SocialSubmitter or some other social bookmarking site to promote your article just like you would promote your site itself.

Good advice. The most important thing with any article writing is to make the content work for you twice. Once by generating a response directly from the article and then also through building links to your site for the appropriate key words. This means that you should put quality content in the article, not some fluff like many articles have.

It’s a good idea but I’d be wary of some of the article sites that make their terms of service one where you give permission to other members to use the articles (they say the person has to do a linkback but many don’t and try to take credit for it).
I’ve really only seen results from sites with a higher PR, the article sites where you post and the thing starts with zero just isn’t going to be good like posting a comment to a blog post of one that older and has had time to build PR of the post itself. Of course that has to be one with Dofollow on, but it’s worth finding them for quality backlinks, not just quantity.

I think one of my earlier posts got swallowed by web goblins, so I’m trying again. :-)

Many of the smaller article directories were created based on a free software offer from a party who shall remain nameless. Unfortunately, since there was no cost to join or set up, hundreds of these sites got proliferated across the web. In many cases, the site owners never check new article entries or publish them, meaning you can waste hours of time waiting for “editorial review” to no avail.

You may want to check out Helium.com and eHow.com, both of which publish almost instantly and have PR’s of 6 and above.

It is great idea to use as a marketing tool for your site. 1 tip from my own experience: don’t use those so called article directory sumitters. They only have a couple of the good quality article directories and a lot of bad ones only to set up to catch your details and send you a lot scam and/or spam mails. Just make the effort and submit manually to a handful of good article directories like Ezine and Go Articles.

I will probably regret asking this, but at the risk of being spammed to death, has anyone had success with any of the article submission services or software? I love the idea but have hated most of the products I’ve seen. They seem to point to a lot of worthless sites.

Also, how many of you have had any of your articles picked up? I have have only had one out of seven actually put on another site, and they didn’t even carry over my links- rather frustrating. Since I used to write for the college newspaper and whatnot, I thought I was at least an acceptable writer. But clearly I’m doing something wrong! :D

T.Scott, we used software in the past and did manage to get the articles out there. Just realize when you do that it is going to be considered duplicate content. If you do want to use these types of services, just make sure it is content that is not on your site. If it is something that is being used to establish your business as an authority, then its fine.

I have articles picked up all the time on EzineArticles.com..as PS3 said, often time they rank for the keywords higher than the site I am promoting.

You can also try doing some guest blogging on other sites..that is a great way to get your unique content out there.

The above is the most useful tip in the article. Very important. Don’t make your article *too* focused – broaden the topic to catch the eye of anyone who might even be just remotely interested in what your site says or sells.

Writing articles is a time process. Usually, I open up my notepad and write down my thoughts, and what I wanna say…..then I get them published. It’s best to have an editor so you don’t have a punctuation error on the article then you could find them easily. This is very informative article that you have posted people she read this.

PS3, back eons ago we used to use automated software to submit articles to mass quantities of article directories. Now however, we just submit to primarily the big sites like ezinearticles. You could also try creating pages on sites like Hubpages, and Squidoo. I then do a bit of link building to the article pages to give them a link more link juice. Getting fewer links but of higher quality is far better than 100’s or thousands of crappy article directory links.

My experience with smaller article sites is that many of them are no longer maintained or updated. I spent 2 dozen hours with 3 articles once trying to hit all the article sites with a semi-automatic submitter. Two months later I can testify that 3/4 never responded at all- no acceptance, no rejection, no requests for edits- zilch.

I would stick with the major article sites and rotate the title and the opening sentence of each paragraph to help reduce the chances of hitting the duplicate content penalties.

What does everyone else think?
