NonTurbine Wind Generator

Posted by Pixelhead

This is such a cool invention, inventions like this really give me hope for the future.

Since I have not done an environmentally related blog post for some time, I thought why not share it with the peeps.

Pretty cool If I do say so myself.
What about you, have you heard of any cool environmentally related inventions?

Thats quite facinating, surely the cost of a unit such as the one in the video is quite high, I imagine a device which would be used in a real-world scenario would be very expensive. Development cost vs. time for return on investment going on here.

I hope we see something like this applied on a large scale soon.

Wind energy is a great way for our future to generate much needed power using natural resources that are renewable instead of the stuff we use now. I personally want to see more alternatives for gasoline and know that we have to be close to finding a suitable replacement.

Update 1: I was able to track down the company that the inventor formed. It’s called Humdinger Wind Energy, and their homepage is http://www.humdingerwind.com.

Update 2 (last one, I promise!): The inventors have found a way to put groups of these membranes together into panels, similar in size to what a solar panel would be. The panels are modular, so they can be connected together, again just like solar panels. That’s the good news. The bad news is that they haven’t found a company to take care of the manufacturing and distribution yet, so you can’t yet go out and buy any. :-(

Great invention! It’s actually very simple, but very useful. The sad part is, not all government support inventors at all times. They still prioritize large player in the industry than the group of inventors.

Like the above poster, it’s unfortunate that governments will not take advantage of ingenious inventions like these and produce them on a much larger scale. Anyway, this is a very useful product and concept to be used for energy alternatives.

I have always believed in these grass roots approaches to our world issues. However the problem seem to always end up at a point where it doesn’t get off the ground.

This shows that when you take a totally new approach to an invention, you can come up with a superior solution. While it looks primative at the moment, it feels like it should have good commercial potential.

Has anyone actually seen one of these things in person, or know where one might be already deployed in “the real world?”

They perhaps compared it to wind turbines the same scale or so i suppose. The invention even got the “Popular Mechanics 2007 Breakthrough Award”. I can’t wait for other news about it…like a large scale generator…

Nice invention. Although I don’t see this as wind power generator. It work by shaking the tape. However, never seen that electricity generate without turbine. I just wondering, if this can work with fan. Fan also work with electricity.
