Avatar vs Alvin and The Chipmunks:The Squeakquel

Posted by Pixelhead

Last weekend I took my daughter to see Alvin and The Chipmunks:The Squeakquel. Now it might not have been a great movie, but I think I liked it better than Avatar. I think it beat out Avatar in two important areas.

First, I love any movie that uses potty humor. The bit when Theodore gets trapped in the “Dutch oven” had me rolling. I don’t remember even one yuck from Avatar.

Secondly, and more importantly, I felt more of an emotional connection to the chipmunks than I did the characters in Avatar.

I may not be the best movie critic, but I do know that I prefer movies where I am able to have some sort of connection to the characters. Emotionally empty movies tend to leave me feeling like I wish I had spent the time and money elsewhere.

How about You

What do you look for in a movie?

Nice opinion.
I think that Avatar is a Colossal with too many important point.

Especially the ideal of colonization of indigenous peoples, due to human history. The defense of populations against the oppressor.
There aren’t humorous insights, but certainly is a film with great human values.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I felt some thing different while watching Avatar other then you. In the movie Avatar they tried to show the present situations in this world like America attack on Afghanistan, not to cut Trees(Global warming), rationalism and many more. when come to love and affections, family part is also present.

I haven’t seen either yet, but Avatar in 3D is high on my list, as soon as the queues have subsided a little bit. Humor is my thing too, make no mistake, but the message behind Avatar is what is drawing me to go and see it.

I saw Avator last night, and I must admit i wasn’t impressed.
All my friends talked about how it was like being there yourself because of the 3d goggles, but all I gained from it was a headache.

Avatar was not a movie about yucks nor was it even about emotional connection. It was about the spiritual connection of the characters and the planet they lived on.

Alvin is great but absolutely no match for Avatar. It’s fantasy land for adults!

To be honest, I didn’t see the Chipmunks, but I saw Avatar. Avatar is my kind of movies, I really enjoyed it. And my ‘hubby” liked it also.

I cannot compare, because I have not seen chipmunks, but I liked the animation in avatar, everything looked so real. The love story is what had me all emotional.

Avtar is a good movie if we take it as a animated movie. But in general it is a normal movie. It’s high budget expenditure is due to animation only.

Chipmunks for the win, although Avatar took the crown from Titanic as the worldwide most box-office movie, I’d still like The Chipmunks. Why? All I can say is they are soooo cute and I want to meet them personally (Well I don’t think so I could meet them. Hehe)

I also have to have a connection with the characters and can’t just watch the events of the film unfold. My favorite type of films are character studies.

I have not watched avatars yet, but it will hardly be my favorite movie. I think it is a good movie, I’ll watch it several times in the future. but I like movies with deep meaning, not actions

I’ve got to say it’s suprising to hear a review praising A&C over Avatar. Persoanlly I felt the exceptional upgrades Alvin compared to it’s lowly animation days seemed weird. Call me crazy but it seems easier to connect to CG characters in Avatar because I’ve never seen them anyother way.

Now the story, that’s a different thought process all together. :)

I agree that “Alvin and the Chipmunks” is a funny movie but I also personally think that “Avatar” is a great movie in terms of cinematic effects and the story is great too. Anyways both movie are great and I love to watch them again in Dvd’s. :D

Personally I prefer AVATAR alot that A&C

although both of them are partial CG movie, You cant just compare them…Chipmunk is musical comedy while AVATAR is sci-fi adventure

feels like comparing apple to orange

It makes me smile when I find somebody else who didnt like avatar, I just found myself sitting there looking at the colours, I just couldnt believe the characters, especially the head scientist lady, I just didnt believe her, it looked like she was acting.

James Cameron can certainly put on a show.

I watched “Avatar” in 3D and it was superb!!
The animations are unbelievable & they blend so well with the live actors. I never even felt that I was watching something ‘unreal’ all through the movie. Plus the story isn’t too bad, so I estimate all in all it’s much superior than ‘Alvin and The Chipmunks:The Squeakquel’.

My vote goes to Avatar 3D. Both of the movies mentioned here are from separate genres, so it is idiocy to even compare them.

Avatar is an awesome review for an awesome movie. I would not mind watching movies like these over and over even more than 10 times Lol I love its story line. Also the GFX is pretty awesome! A MUST WATCH movie for anyone.
