Motorola Backflip Review

Posted by Pixelhead

My Motorola Backflip has only a few more hours left in my life…I just got my iPhone 3GS, so I will be taking the Backflip back to the AT&T store in Boyertown as soon as I get this Motorola Backflip review post done.

Motorola BackflipAnd none too soon..

Having used the Backflip for about 3 weeks, I can honestly say there have been very few moments that have gone by when I have not cursed the poorly designed smart phone.  Below is my video review of the Backflip, and below it you will find a list of my gripes..there might even be a list of the few things I like about the Backflip..a short list indeed.

Motorola Backflip Features I Like

Motorola Backflip Features I Hate

As you can tell from the amount of negatives, my opinion of the Motorola Backflip is less than favorable. Perhaps I might be too spoiled after using an iPhone 3G for about 6 months. If I were a young teenager I would probably love this phone.  But for me, I think I will be glad to be once again be using an iPhone.

A friend of mine in the business has one and it is always shutting off on him. When it is on his hip it gets touched and then it ends up shutting off, only for him to find missed calls and voicemails after he notices the outage.

Very nice review :) . Ive never been a huge Motorola fan but I was curious about the Backflip. I think my iPone outshines it a million times over though.

Sounds like a really awful phone indeed. Three weeks is definitely enough time to find out all the different problems you will face. You know its a bad phone when the features you hate are far more than the ones you like. Thanks for the review Pixelhead.

The iPhone is really the king of phones. It looks good, has a good touchscreen and there are thousands of applications for it. The telephone function can almost pale into insignificance when compared to the various tasks you can do with it. The iPhone 4G looks interesting too, what phone maker can possibly keep up with Apple?

I’ve never been a fan of Motorola. Before I chose Nokia or Samsung mobile phone. Soon I should replace my mobile, I use it for 5 years but is already outdated, does not support 3G, or MMS. I will not buy a Motorola, this review has confirmed my opinion.

I can’t live without my iPhone man, I don’t know how you went from the iPhone to the Backflip. I haven’t been able to put mine down since I got it. Thanks for the REALLY long list of hates, and the short list of LIKES! :)

I never tried using motorola backflip but my friend does. I guess he mentioned the same sentiment as you are. I am using iPhone and it gives me no problem: signal, battery, talking time on the phone, wifi connectivity and the like.

Jenny, no I have not. I have had numerous Nokia phones, and have always been pleased…usually they were the free phones that were offered by the cell company. I checked out the Nokia N8 page…looks pretty cool…12 mega pixel camera, HD quality video..wow.

Check the Nokia site out for more cool vids of their cool smart phone.

I love my iPhone touch keypad. A flipout keyboard seems so … cluncky. My iPhone is an appendage to my body. I really would like to get an iPad too or at least have my non-tech mom get one.

Motorola were market leaders in the early days, and their characteristic flip set them apart for a long time. Unfortunately it seems like they’ve flipped out themselves, and are just not making products that can be classified as upper-end any more. It would be nice if they cold turn their fortunes around ala Apple, but I am not holding my breath at all.

I too have had those same problems. Pretty phone but it sucks. Dropped calls ll the time. The internet on it is SO slow! Battery life is awful. The ringtones! You have to actually go thru some LONG process to download it to the phone! Ugh! So disappointed! I should have kept my LG.

The Motorola Backflip is another flop in the many smartphones that try to compete with the iPhone. Most companies try to overload the phone with great features but without the right software, these phones utterly suck. Just stick with the iPhone and you would be fine. Great review on the many lacking details of the Motorola Backflip.

I recently got this phone to replace my last phone. I was an iPhone user for 3 years, and I must say, I really like the BackFlip despite missing all the apps on Apple. I like how Motorola has also integrated motoblur into the phone because I love how much information I can get from just the homescreen.

Nice post!
I agreed with Goran, Motorola were market leaders in early days but they lack new innovations in trends and didn’t update themselves rapidly thats why they lacked. But still they are trying to compete with Apple and Google iPhone and android phones. Lets see who wins :)

With the iPhone and Google Android out there, I am surprised people are still buying other brands of cell phones. iPhone is the iPhone and even though it has many problems (feels like Apple is the Big Brother) it is a really impressive phone with a grest OS and the Google Android OS is simply amazing.

Putting the Android together with HTC phones is truly amazing and this is the phones for the future. I was always a big fan of the Nokia phones but in the new age of smart phones, it seems to me that Nokia simply dropped the ball with the symbian OS. It simply isn’t in the same ball park as Google Android and iPhone OS.

What do you think?

I see this as a very good sign for the Android market. We don’t need only high-end Android phones. The path to Android taking on the iPhone is to get millions and millions of Android phones in people’s pockets, and a flood of cheaper phones like this is just the ticket, if they price it right.

The BACKFLIP’s distinctive form-factor has its benefits, but we’re not sure they’re sufficient to distinguish it from other handsets out there; when you take into account the old version of Android it runs and uncertainty regarding upgrade timescales, that’s several good reasons we can think of to give the phone a miss.

Motorola somehow seems to have lost out in the race amongst the latest fad of smartphones between Blackberry, Nokia and the cult iphone… My favorite brand remains Nokia for their immensely user friendly phones, fueled with a strong battery back up (in particular the E63) and all the bouquet of services from push mail, camera, document editors and stuff… Comparable to the phone your reviewed here, I am excited about the Nokia C6, a similar slider phone with full QWERTY Keypad and similar features due to be launched within the next couple of months… Best part is it comes at a super price tag!!
