Niche SEO – Find Your SEO Niche

Posted by Pixelhead

Wow, it has been almost two months since I posted. Why? I am not exactly sure. It must be summer.  What have I been working on?

Well lots of stuff. But what have I been thinking about?

Home Improvement SEO

What I have been thinking about are Niches of SEO. We have multiple websites that focus on various niches, such as real estate, travel, food, and home improvement.  Since I have these niche sites, I have decided to focus on these areas from an SEO perspective. So for example our home improvement site, which does have some home improvement articles and home improvement info, I will now focus on doing blog posts that put some SEO type info that include info on how other home improvement webmasters can optimize their sites to improve their results. So maybe some home improvement company owners will find some useful info, and realize how time consuming SEO is, and request a proposal for our Home Improvement SEO services. I have already started out contacting these types of sites via Twitter and Facebook.

Restaurant SEO

For our restaurant review site, I would like to be seen as an authority in the field of resaurant SEO, so I have started adding articles for restaurant owners that will help with their online marketing. Restaurants, much like Home Improvement contractors, should be more concerned with their local search results. Restaurants don’t necessarily need to rank in the natural listings, but do need to show up in the local listings. We can help them with that for sure.

Travel SEO

For our travel site, we will be positioning ourselves as an authority in the travel seo field. We are already getting some traffic for the term Travel SEO. The blog currently has some articles which are aimed at travel agents who would like to increase their marketing. But I believe I can do more than help travel agents. This SEO niche, would seem to be the one that has the most potential.  Travel SEO clients could include hotels, airlines, restaurants at popular vacation destinations, destination travel bureaus, hospitality industry web advertising agencies that do not have in-house SEO staff, resorts, and more.

Update:Check out What is Travel SEO?

Niche SEO Development

First, we have already positioned ourselves as a reputable SEO firm.  Secondly, we have the sites, which we can use to focus on these other SEO niches.  Third we need to spread the word and get more clients in the focus niches.

My efforts as the Social Media Director will be to make contacts with potential clients via Social Media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin, by using tactics such as those discussed by our former intern in Using LinkedIN, Twitter and Facebook to to find a Job.

I will be using the rule of 8 touches and tracking my efforts by noting dates and times of contact.

Next, I am in the process of creating landing pages on Baldydog.com for the three SEO Niches, and I will then build some links to the said landing pages, which should help them in the SERPs for these SEO terms which should be far less competitive than SEO terms such as SEO, SEO company, SEO contractor, SEO firm, Search Engine Optimization, Search Engine Optimization Company and the like.

So, what is your seo niche, and how can I help you?

Niching the SEO industry, interesting idea :) Let us know how connecting with potential clients via social media works out, I’m still yet to see hard evidence that this really works – mostly because my own mindset is that I go to Facebook and other sites to socialize and am not interested in being approached by any company.

Finding your niche is the most important thing of successful internet marketing strategy. If one website is not really successful or partially successful, another idea is to open few. If one website makes $100 a month, 10 websites can make $1000.

@FreshVago I approved the pingback, which was created by using the Fresh From plugin..I used one of these types of Twitter agrogators on one of my other sites, but thought the posts were kind of ugly. But, I kind of like this because it is a way of sharing Tweets from others. I might have to reconsider. Anyway, I checked out Chrisdamitio.com and it is a pretty cool blog inspite of the automated Twitter post.

@Peter, I am using the 8+ touches approach to sales. As Jim Ludlow, one of my mentors says, if you get a “no on the first or second touch, you just need to keep the communication lines open. Its all about the numbers. And yes, I think you are right about being sold stuff on the social networks.

I will look up the rule of 8, do you have any other sales suggestions that you found to work?

Paul@NewHomes I am certain I do..how about asking a series of yes no questions, that will require a yes answer, and then follow it up with asking for a sale.

This is a great idea instead of having one SEO site for all niches you break it up and offer pointers just for that niche. Its a way to stay focused on the needs of certain niches and customize the tactics for that niche.

Thanks for posting such great topics. Niches were really important for it’s good if you have been aiming for web traffic. Having a niche as your target gives your business a positive response for you have posted your site to it’s proper place where you could easily have your target market.

It is just really hard to convince or explain companies how hard and long SEO services take. They want results in Google fast and swift but Google does not allow that. Time is money so companies want results fast. So explaining to a company that the more money they put in SEO will help get them faster results is hard to convince.

@Adam / pixelhead: I think my resistance to really diving in to social media is partly driven by the bosses who expect results – when you tell them that you are spending your time just ‘chatting’ and have been doing so for the last 6 weeks without tangible results (ie. an interested lead) it can be hard to convince them that you are spending your time wisely. I think a lot of bosses don’t get the fact that the time you are investing to build up the relationships can pay off in the long term – but it’s very hard to measure the ROI unlike an AdWords campaign or even SEO.

Having as many niche websites as possible making money is the way to making big bucks on the internet. Sure, the money will fluctuate for each website but the more you build the better your earnings will be.

#19. July 29th, 2010, at 2:51 PM.

It`s so hard to find a good, profitable niche! I started doing SEO about 2 years ago, and I`ve built probably something like 30 websites in different niches. I`ve kept only 6-7 of them, so a good niche is really hard to find. I hardly make any money though, as I just cracked the Google ranking-”secret” a few weeks ago.

Not sure about those niches.. Home improvement and restaurants? Can you make any serious money on those? Travel, on the other hand.. Would be nice to be on top of Google for “travel”.

In sales, it generally means you can not expect to close the sale until you have had atleast 8 communication exchanges with the person..but I have heard that this is a lot higher online. So an email with a person would count as one touch…7 more to go.

What a brilliant idea. Turning your niche into focused micro niches sounds like a really great way to funnel traffic right where you want it. It seems to be a great way to drive traffic and sales from those looking for a very specific SEO need.

Keep us updated.

Finding niche keywords is a lot of work. Any time you take to find niche keywords is time that you could have spent building profitable sites and writing articles to bring in traffic. There are numerous ways to outsource your time consuming tasks. An easy, and cheap way to start is to have someone search for profitable niches and find niche keywords for you.

Not sure I understand right whether you are implying that something different needs to be done for SEO efforts in a specific niche. If you are saying that, perhaps you could elaborate, since I am not sure I follow.

If you are just trying to target specific niches, that would make sense for me.

PageRank (PR) can only take eleven values (0-10). It is an ordinal variable meaning that the difference between PR = 8 and PR = 9 is not the same as the difference between PR = 3 and PR = 4.

Micro niches is where it’s at these days, there is no point trying to be on page one for terms like world news cars realestate …etc , i think just stay true to your passions and enjoy what you are doing and yes find the correct niche for you and then work smart at making it work for you. SO much information these days to contribute to a sound knowledge about nearly every subject out there.
