Local Search Sites – Add MapQuest.com to the Local Search List

Posted by Pixelhead

A new addition to the sites to submit your local business to is the old time map site MapQuest.com which became a much less used map site due to Google Maps.  MapQuest.com is the number two map site, behind Google, so it can’t hurt to submit your business to it for free. MapQuest Logo

I just submitted a client’s business to Mapquest Local Business Center and was using Mozilla, and was having difficulty. So I openned up IE and it worked much better.  (let me know if you  notice a difference)

In addition to the free submission listing, Mapquest also has some premium listing services to include the $99/yr highlighted premium listing, and the multiple listing feature for $399 a year to a broad partner network:Yelp!, Yahoo!, SuperPages, CitySearch, White Pages, Yellowbook, YellowBot and LOCAL .

What other sites to you list your local businesses?

Haha, its funny to think of Mapquest as “the old timey map site”!
I guess if I think about it, I’ve completely replaced my use of Mapquest with Google Maps, especially since I am a proponent of Android and Google as so seamlessly integrated their Maps system into it.

@Bean Bags, if you have a physical location for your business, not just a virtual store, then you can Google “Google Places” and sign up or in with your Gmail account and follow the directions.

MapQuest has long been regarded as a trusted source for maps and directions, and has expanded its consumer offerings to provide a variety of tools that help consumers discover and explore where to go, how to get there and what to see along the way.

Thanks for the recommendation Pixel. Mapquest surely need to get in front of the Google Map hype and get a place on its industry. The directory is pretty awesome if you take time to explore what it offers :)

This is true, MapQuest was attracted attention for sometime but Google maps took over. Google being the number one search engine gained much popularity during a short span.

Google Local Business Listings are different than organic or pay-per-click listings and typically only show up when the user types a service oriented business followed by the city for their search. At this point a Google Maps appears alongside up to ten URLs with a phone number by each.

For those that need more than ten listings you have the option to click the “More Results” option and you’ll be taken to a map with alphabetically lettered red pegs for each register business on Google Maps. There is no secret that being listed on Google Maps and/or Google’s Local Business Listings is becoming even more important since they are being displayed more often in searches with up to ten listings even before the organic listings start.

That is a good idea, I didn’t realize that mapquest was still around. I generally use Rand McNally for my map searches, but now I know I have another option to choose from.

I let myself be driven by how I feel. I’m currently recording the past 3 months or so on my site – I’ve been thru quite the character-building experience that caused my writing to slow down dramatically.
