I got the Photojojo newsletter yesterday, and found out about a cool project being run by GE.  By uploading photos to Flickr through the GE Ecomagination site,  you can help them to donate wind power, solar power and drinking water to an underdeveloped country. Engadget test drives the Chevy Volt, which Chevy considers to be an electric car with extra range due to the use of a supplemental gas engine..sounds like a cool car. You can watch the video and see the write that was done by Chris Stevens in the orginal post Engadget test drives the Chevy Volt

I first heard about the story of, William Kamkwamba, a young resourceful African man, several months ago when I stumbled across an article about this young man who learned to build windmills out of materials that he found and which supply electricity to his village.
When he first started building windmills, he was 14, and not in school. Watch the video or better yet order his book if you want to learn more.

I just love stories about people like this because their stories offer so much hope. It almost inspires me to try to make one in my own back yard.

I love it,  he didn’t even know about Google. What is amazing is you look at what this young lad was able to accomplish with so very few resources. I am sure he will be able to accomplish some amazing things with all the resources that he now has at his disposal.

As wind farms become more and more common across the rural landscape, urban areas are also going to want to take advantage of the power of the wind. As anyone who has visited the windy City, the possibility of using wind turbines is unlimited.

This new type of propeller-less windmill, the Windspire uses technology that the Egyptians used for grinding wheat over 3000 years ago.

The Windspire is manufactured by Mariah Power. I was reading their blog and see that they have a Windspire at a Vineyard in New York. I just might have to take a trip up to NY and check the Windspire out for myself.
I would love to get one of these for my house, which is on top of a hill and usually gets a pretty good breeze on most days.

This is such a cool invention, inventions like this really give me hope for the future.
