Yesterday, I was watching the morning news, and John Anderson, the anchor did a consumer spending story that went over the best times of years to buy certain merchandise. According to his resources, John said that March is the best time of year to be buying digital cameras, due to something to do with Japan’s taxes. So all the digital camera manufacturers will be unloading all of last years digital camera models.

Sony Cyber-shot TXI $299.99 – save $50

This is just a small selection of the digital camera sales that I found in the Sunday sales flyers. I am sure if you do a little searching, you will be able to find greater sales online. Many times, if you stop in to the actual physical store, there will be sales that are specific to each store. Many times you can get the demo models at really huge discounts. Last year, a friend of mine got a real sweet Sony DSLR for a little over $200, just because he was at the right spot at the right time.

I am going to keep my eyes on the digital camera deals as the month goes on, and plan to update this post with any other deals that I find.

What digital camera do you have your eye on?

Since creating the Baldydog Facebook Fan Page, we have really not done too much with our fan page. However, the other day, I got a Google Alert for the our company name “baldydog”. I opened the email and saw that the Facebook Fan page was the mention..kind of strange, since I had not posted anything on the fan page in quite some time.

Not thinking about it too much, later on that day, I came across a post on Facebook or Twitter that Google is now caching Facebook Fan pages, but not the millions of user pages. I think the person that left the messege might have been a little annoyed that their personal face book pages were not going to show up in Google.

So knowing that these pages will now be seen by not only my Facebook fans, but also anyone that might come across them on Google. Cool, that just might provide me a little bit of incentive to post on it more frequently.

What is the Purpose of the Baldydog Fan Page?

But what will I do with the fan page? As Social Media Marketing, commented on the Creating a Facebook Fan Page, how will it benefit people who become fans of Baldydog on Facebook?

Find helpful SEO and Online marketing resources or blog posts which are not mine.

Find links to SEO related blog posts that I have done here or elsewhere.

Allow fans to share SEO related info.

Be a place to pass on Baldydog.com news.

The Fan Page is another outpost, which will serve to redirect visitors to the blog(s).

What Else can I do to create value for the Baldydog Facebook Fan page?

Do you even have a Yellow Pages in your house?

This year, as many believe, including myself, you are going to see a huge increase in the number of smart phones that, much like my iPhone, will be able to access the internet from the palm of your hand. New data plans are becoming available all the time that are well within the budget of many.

You know when you do a search in Google and you put in a location modifyer, and the local listings appear at the top of the page. These are the listings that will appear on the cell phone screen of the user looking for local businesses such as restaurants, shops, Chiropractors, gargages, etc..the idea is, you want to be sure to be on the Google map and as close to the top position on those listings as possible.

Add Your Business to the Google Map

If you have a business and you have done any advertising, your business will probably already be listed on the Google Map. You should however, claim your listing, and submit yourself to be sure that the listing is correct. To do this you will need to have a Google account, and then you will need to log into the Google Local Business Center.

So even if it is already on the map, you should create a new listing and claim your listing. Being sure to to use the correct info to include the use of the five best categories. I would also suggest that you add your biggest keyword and your phone number at the beginning of your add description, so your phone number will appear in the add.

Its a pretty easy process, but just in case you have questions, check out this post for more detailed info on adding your business to the Google Map.

Its already there, how did it get there?

There are several data services(not listing) out there that get their data from both white pages and yellow pages. Which then add the businesses to the search engines. So if in the past you had a Yellow Pages add, your business is more than likely listed on the Google Map. The info in your business listing may be old or incorrect, so be sure to check it out, and if it needs to be changed, then log onto the Google Local business center and create your listing.

More and More Local Search

I am going to be doing a series on local search as I really believe that it is going to take off this year, and be even more important. So be sure to check back often, and you can also sign up for the feed.

How to Get Your Blog Comments Published

Leave an opinion about the content that is blog post specific.

Answer a question that was asked.

Ask a question that relates to the topic of the blog post.

Answer a question that another commentator asked.

Offer alternative solutions to a problem.

If you have read my commentators guidelines you know that I generally don’t like to publish comments for sites that don’t have either an active blog or a forum. Occasionally, if the comment is really good, I will publish the comment…frequently, I don’t. If you don’t have a blog, then be sure to leave an awesome comment if you want it published.

If you want to compliment me, feel free to do so, but leave it at the end or the beginning of a relavant comment.

Well, that is enough of my rant on crappy comments.

What Do You Think?

Do you have commenting guidelines on your blog? If you don’t have a blog, do you think commenting guidelines are good?

Today, I spent a better part of the day trying to figure out what the heck was wrong with Alltravelsites becasue my wifes virus protection gave her a warning, and when I was on it, it kept redirecting to some other sites. Another friend checked it out and his virus protection came up with a warning that said the page had a JS:Small-c[trj] virus.

VIRUSES BITE

Being pretty slow, I checked out the source code, and saw nothing that was sticking out at me. I put a support ticket into the webhost, and they were of very little help..they requested several screenshots because did they not detect a virus. The page also did not redirect all the time, because you had to navigate around on the page for a while.

Later on this evening, I emailed my friend Greg over at Domain Name Co (lots of great domain names for sale on his site by the way) and he suggested I check out the template files. Greg’s email encouraged me to do a bit more research, so with the tool known as Google, I did a quick search..got to love Google..so I searched for JS:Small-C Virus and this forum with the solution to the problem was at the top of the results.

THE VIRUS SOLUTION(temp)

I went into the header file and found the code that was indicated in the forum deleted it and the problem was temporarily fixed. Temporary because I now need to update the template. I tried to this a while ago, and the entire site went down. I then put in another ticket so that I can get the blog updated. Some little snafu with the ftp protocol.

Anyway after I fixed the travel blog I headed over here and noticed the words INCLUDE_DATA at the top of the page. I went into the header file and found the text siting just before the <head> tag, which I promptly deleted.

Just thought I would share my experience with this in case your blog happens to be doing some wonky stuff.

The final solution, make sure you update your WP versions as soon as possible so that security patches are fixed because there are but heads out there who will take advantage of your failure to update your blog.
