Are American Idol Contestants Getting Better?

Posted by Pixelhead

To start, let me say I am not an American Idol fan, because I have watched less than a half dozen entire shows. The extent my knowledge of the current American Idol season, comes from the morning news on the Philly Fox channel.

My mother in law, who does not watch American Idol either, made a statement that inspired this post. She said, from just seeing small little clips that we see on the news, it seems that the contestants are getting much better.

Our opinions of the show are that at the beginning of first few seasons, the show had some really awful contestants, but now in its 7th season we believe, the contestants seem a whole lot better. I think if you put the current contestants up against the first seasons contestants, the new ones would blow the old ones away.

Why are the American Idol Contestants getting better?

As the show has grown in popularity, the contestants, both winners and losers have gotten a lot of attention. For example, just yesterday, one of last years American Idol contestants who did not win, was on the morning news show doing one of his country music songs. So for even those that do not come in first place, the American Idol, is a great platform for launching a music career.

Now American Idol, because it has grown and created a name for itself, is now an authority in the music industry. Get on American Idol, and make it past the initial stages, and you can almost guarantee yourself a good start to your music career.

How big Has It Become?

So it now seems that it is more of an “Earth Idol” rather than American Idol.

Why Blog about American Idol?

Much like contestants on American Idol, I am going to recommend to you do several things to promote yourself as a blogger. First, I am going to recommend that you seek out the blogging authorities in your field. Visit blogs that may be authorities in your field and network with them. Often times these bloggers are very eager to help new bloggers get experience and gain readership.

Secondly, I am going to recommend that you participate in contests much like the Hubpages Hublove contest I mentioned in the previous post. Not that Hubpages can be compared to American Idol, but it could be a platform to launch your blogging career.

What Do You Think About American Idol?

If you watch American Idol, Do you think the contestants are getting better? Please feel free to let me know if I have made any errors or if there are some good blogs about American Idol that readers should visit. If you can’t stand American Idol, let me know that as well.

I think that as American Idol gained credit, the talented became less wary about participating on a reality tv show- especially in the first season. However, I will always always think that Kelly Clarkson is by far the best American Idol - first and best!

It was a history making event to say the least. Even I, who have seen the show so little know about her and her success on the first year.

I’m not sure. I don’t watch it anymore, after the first two seasons. Remember that whole Clay Aiken/Ruben Studdard drama? I stopped after that. Whatever happened to Ruben by the way?

I wholly agree with you that American Idol is a great launchpad for a music career. I never watch American Idol but I almost always know who the winner is and then end up loving their music. I think most of my favorite artists are American Idol winners. Its kind of cool to have a show that ends up with more then just some money and the winner is never heard of again.

I have to say that American Idol contestants are getting better. I think they’re moving away from the focus on the weirdos who totally blow it on national tv. In other words, they’re moving away from William Hung to people who have actual talent. Look at it this way: the more actual talented people who go on to have careers after the show, the more money will be made.

The kid who sang Imagine by John Lennon the other night–can’t remember his name–was really really good. So I think the show has taken a turn for the better.

Talking as someone who has had to put up with Simon Cowell for what seems like too many years over here in the UK, I would say you guys are lucky to have some talented performers.

Don’t get me wrong, we have some special talent ourselves, but maybe only one or two in the whole show.

Idol has about run its course in my view though, what happened to people playing gigs and earning their stripes properly.

According to my Idol-loving co-workers, the contestants have gotten worse overall (looks, image) but definitely better at singing. I don’t know. I watched about 30 minutes several years ago and I never felt the urge to watch it again. I’d rather work towards my own successes than waste time watching glorified Karaoke. Forgive the rantiness of that last sentence, I’m just sick of hearing Idol talk at lunch.

Me too is also not a big fan of American Idol. But since you speak that the contests have improved, I will try to catch up on an episode to see how it’s doing.

I think the contestants are definitely getting better, and I love the show. But, I just can’t bring myself to blog about it. I actually bought a very relevant domain name the first week of the audition shows about one of the female contestants. She made the top 12 … but I still haven’t written anything for that blog. How sad is that?

Yes, I think American Idol is a great show. It has given a lot of unknown musicians the chance to make their dreams come true. Otherwise, most will be at the mercy of record executives just to get known. I see American Idol as a better platform for talented up and coming singers and musicians. It has already produced a number of great artist and imho it would continue to do so.

I have watched most episodes over the last three years. I think the field is better this year. Last year had a couple standouts only.

I, too, agree that his show is great for the aspiring artists. I especially like the fact that non only the Winners are seeing great exposure and commercial success (Daughtry, Elliot, etc.)

I’d like to see more of Melinda Doolittle. What’s she doing these days?

American Idol is very good show. I have seen it two year. I have seen that there has been made some changes. But, it’s good.
I would like to say one thing that we can get talented newcomers through this type of show.
So, we can grab the real enjoy by hearing of them.

Believe it or not, American Idol is hugely popular in prison. It always drew a huge crowd and lots of betting on who was going to be voted off next.

Absolutely, the contestants are better— because most of the Top 24 were “planted” by the producers.

Here are but a few:

1) Michael Johns (was in popular band “The Rising” in Australia)
2) Carly (Hennesey) Smithson — Les Miz (UK cast), TV commercials, failed MCA record project cost $2.2 million and sold 378 records.

3) Kristy Lee Cook (recorded on Britney’s label & had music video with Confederate Flag, hence her nickname “KKKristy”)

4) David Archuleta — Winner of “Star Search” when he was 11-12 years old.

5) Syesha Mercado — well known in Atlanta area as a stage & TV personality.

6) Brooke White– has previous record label connections.

7) Robbie Carrico— was in a Boy Band, dated Britney Spears.

Of the top 12, only Amanda, Ramielle, and David Cook are non-plants.
