Firefox Download Day

Posted by Pixelhead

Firefox is trying to break the world record for the most software downloaded in a 24 hr period.

Download Day

So if you are like me and you are using an older version of Firefox, tomorrow, June 17th, help Firefox to set a new world record and download the latest FREE version of Firefox.

What features does the new Firefox have?

What, you are still using Internet Explorer?

Alright all you Firefox users, stop your laughing, that’s not polite. For all you still using IE, I implore you to make the switch, not to help me out in any way, but to help yourself. I like you, was once an IE browser user, but after having IE block the Google tool bar a few years ago, I made the switch for professional reasons.  This, I will have you know was my second time attempting to use the Firefox. What can I say, old habits die hard, but as they say, if you do something for something like twenty days it becomes a habit. So my suggestion to you, give Firefox a try for a month, and you too will become a fan of this browser, which can be customized to your needs. Click either image to be able to download Firefox 3.

FIREFOX DOWNLOAD DAY UPDATE

According to TechCrunch, the Firefox 3 Hype Worked, because 8.3 million downloads were recorded in the first 24hrs, beating their goal by 5 million.  Congratulations go out to the Firefox marketing team.

FF is the only browser that I use. It is the best for SEO purposes. The add ons are really helpful.

For those of us whose life is online, it seems we are more likely to not use IE.

I downloaded and installed Firefox 3. It looks really clean. I also noticed that it is not the final release but a trial version. Apparently it has a little tweaking yet.

I’ve been a user of FireFox for a couple of years now. I only go near IE reluctantly when I’m testing a new site layout for compatibility purposes. I didn’t realize version 3 was available. I’m doing my duty, and downloading it now. Thanks for the heads up.

I switched from IE to FF about a year ago and never switched back again. I also only use IE if im testing a new website layout to see if its compatible with the IE.

I believe FF is loading the sites faster than IE or maybe it’s just my feeling because I’m a fan of FF.

Well they did it 8+ million. Here is South Africa there were only 19000 downloads but that is a start. The new Firefox browser is much faster then the previous one. As a first impression, IE does not stand a chance.

Yes, I think if someone gives it a try for a month, they surely won’t be going back to IE.

I have been using FF as my primary broswer since it was in beta. But since I switched to OSX, and since Safari has become much faster, smoother and stable, I have not really used it so much. FF is great for PC users looking for an alternative to IE, but Mac users don’t have much reason to use it, unless there is a FF plugin that they can’t live without.

Just my 2 cents.

I was not able to download it due to heavy traffic. I had spent almost a day to try it but didn’t make it. Can anyone tell me what are the new features? I’m using the older version. Though, it still much much better than IE.

I participated in download day, it was pretty nice. There were a lot of problems with it, though, although I personally didn’t see any. They’ll set a world record anyway, because it’s never been done before, but it could be easily breakable.

I too love Firefox because of all of the useful add ons. I just downloaded Firefox 3 and find it faster. As mentioned in one of the comments, all of the SEO/Webmaster plugins are extremely useful.

Adam,

It’s been a while since i’ve been around these parts. I hope you are well. Actully I’ve been lurking but not commenting, this post has encouraged me to come out of hiding.

FF3: I haven’t tried it yet but frankly, the fact it *isn’t* Internet Explorer is good enough for me!

I too participated in the Firefox Download Day and I am using FF 3 right now. This one looks better then 2.4 but there are two minor problems that I am facing. Firstly it has disabled most of my helping Add-ons and secondly the prompting while typing an URL is also not that great.

Firefox is great, I installed it about a year ago and like everyone says, once you goto Firefox, you will never go back to IE.

Now I am using another browser, Flock :-) Flock is the social web browser. It’s built on the same engine as Firefox so most FF extensions also work with Flock.

I learned about it from Ed Dale of the 30 Day Challenge.

Great idea… But I’ll wait thank you… I actually downloaded it previously to discover that Google toolbar, RoboForm, and other needed tools will not work. So I will wait… Maybe for 3.1.

I usually do let other people do the testing first. With the need to prove to the world that FF rocked I downloaded it and am using it. Many of my previous extensions are not working but I do really like the speed. Like everything new, I just need to make it my own and go and find out what is new. Have not had the pleasure of Safari yet and well I am on a PC so long live firefox.

I’ve been using firefox for the last few years now and using IE just makes me cringe, no idea how I managed! I’m not upgrading yet as most of the add ons I have (prob the best feature of Firefox) don’t work yet with the new version. Is there a way to have old and new versions on the same machine?

Being a developer, I use several browsers to check out my dev efforts in different browsers. I use IE6 and Firefox 2 as my baseline, and I must say, IE just stinks. However, i find that I use it for most of my browsing. Why? Laziness I suspect. I really should flip over to Firefox as my primary browser, and in fact, I need to. I’ve already killed myself in a development project by building a site, and theming it with CSS and masterpages, and only using IE to do my initial tests. Looks fine in IE, but when I opened up the site in Firefox, it looks terrible.

Lesson here, and it’s said all across the internet, use Firefox to test your CSS development, then conform to IE. I’ve wasted several hours fixing this, and it’s a huge lesson for me.

Firefox is the way to go in my opinion.

Nice blog! Subscribed and thumbs up!

What few people don’t know is that firefox 3 is already out in beta and has been for quite a while. I use it on my computer and it is very reliable. I just hope they fix the problem where they have no google page rank compatability with the beta version.

Think I’ll wait until the bugs and security scares are gone. Not that I know of any offhand, but I see no need to be an early-adopter.

I also helped to brake this world record. But there is one thing I don’t like in Firefox 3.0 - it is the new address bar!

FireFox 3 (beta) is so much faster than 2 at javascript, it’s pretty remarkable. They seem to have fixed the memory leak, too. I would have grabbed a copy on FF Download Day, but I already had the new beta. :)

I downloaded the new FF3 update and totally love the new enhancements. Like with any other software, I knew it would have bugs but luckily I haven’t encountered anything crazy for me to remove it from my system.

Thanks to FireFox 3 download day I am officially a world record holder, and got the certificate to prove it! Firefox has been a revelation to use, and anybody still stuck on Internet Explorer should have their heads examined. The only crit on FF3 is that not all my add-ons are compatible with the new version, but I am sure that these issues will be resolved in due course (the joys of having an enthusiast community doing the development work….love it)

I am glad they reached their goal but also glad I didn’t download the new Firefox. A friend of mine is having major issues with it. Once the bugs are worked out it is going to be great. Even with bugs FF is way better than IE.

I actually saw this blog post and downloaded FF3. It is pretty cool but i had a few problems with some of the plugins that I use. At this time I’m back to the old version. In general I did like the UI updates.
