Plurk Update

Posted by Pixelhead

Here is my week one Plurk update, which includes stuff I have learned since using Plurk for about a week now. Read Lifecasting On Plurk, my first Plurk post.

Search for Plurk and Twitter Users with Google

Here is a little Google Search Engine that I customized to search both Twitter and Plurk users. I wanted to be able to find users that were near me, so I decided to try this out. Check it out and let me know what you think. Too bad I couldn’t hook up my Google Adsense code to this.

I’ve heard about Plurk but I haven’t signed up for it yet. I’m still sitting on the fence if I should add that to my growing lost of social networking applications or not. Any significant difference with Twitter, other than the Karma thing and the UI?

As Darren said in his Problogger post about the main difference between Twitter and Plurk, conversations on Twitter are one way, were as on Plurk, when you get a conversation going, much like a blog, everyone can see the conversation and get involved.

I haven’t heared about plurk before. I’ll check it out now.

Is it really worth signing up with plurk or twitter? Would you recommend it?
I have a small online business and time is very limited.

Thanks
Daniel

Both Twitter and Plurk can take up a lot of time, but both can help you with a variety of your marketing needs. I would suggest reading any of Probloggers posts on using them for marketing purposes.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to answer my question. I’ll go and read the Probloggers posts about it.

Thanks again

More and more people seem to be using Plurk guessing the reason behind it as you mentioned is ability to have a conversation. Although I will agree that it has high marketing value think a lot of us will find it somewhat hard to use it to it’s full potential as it is very time consuming in my opinion, so one might see rather minor benefit from it compared to invested time.

Arijadna, I think there are multiple ways that a business could use Plurk. One method would be to create a Clique of your business associates and have an ongoing conversation about business developments. A supervisor could use it to keep in touch with his subordinates and such. Not to mention keeping in touch with customers and to let them know about business updates etc.

I agree about that Plurk is useful and that are multiple ways you can improve your business using it, interaction with (potential) customers or with people in the same community being possibly the most important ones. I’m was just trying to point out that all that can be really time consuming and that people that don’t have enough time to dedicate to it might see dubious results at best. Sorry if my first comment wasn’t clear enough and I really appreciate the reply.

I had never even hear of Plurk until I read the couple blog posts you have about it. I am definitely intrigued. I have used Twitter for a few months now and it is fun but only if you can friends that are fun to talk to, it took me forever because a lot of my friends aren’t tech savvy so Twitter means nothing. This Plurk seems almost like a social networking game, which adds a whole new element.

I’ve considered going to Plurk or Twitter, but I’m worried that I won’t have enough bandwidth to keep things going. how do you manage it or work it to your benefit?

Plurk is cool for getting conversations going and also sharing info, such as posts you just wrote. You might go on to plurk and ask your peeps for feed back on a post you just wrote. I am sure there are tons of ways to use for networking purposes.

I came to know about Plurk through Chris Garret’s AB blog pack fellow blogger. I immediately signed up for it, but was not impressed by the horizontal time line. It was a bit confusing for me. Maybe, I am a huge twitter fan and instinctively resisted this social media service. I still prefer twitter and feel at home when socializing on it.

I am involved in alot of social bookmarking sites and never even heard of Plurk. I obviously need to give it a try. I do love Twitter though. Its a fantastic social tool service.

I got aware of this AdSense search box recently too, and I must admit it allows me to monetize my site’s potential I wasn’t aware of till recently. This gadget is highly customizable and you can decide where the ads are appearing in search results. I thinks the major advantage for ad-clickers is that it displays only highly relevant pages containing the keywords they are looking for, so if there’s nothing interested on your homepage for them, they will click the ad. Very clever indeed.
