Are You Open for Opportunity?

Posted by Pixelhead

I have been getting the daily Beachwalks.tv updates in my email for quite sometime now. The daily videos of Roxanne and her dog Lexi, come from the beaches of Hawaii. Roxanne has a different topic everyday which may include personal development subjects to less serious topics. She also gives you a little Hawaiian Language lesson  with a Hawaiian word of the day. Today’s word of the day was Manawa kpono or opportunity.

Today, Roxanne talks about taking a life challenge as her partner Shane said when they were faced with a client rescheduling issue, “What’s the Opportunity Here ?”

I like the idea of finding gold in situations that if  we allow ourselves to, could potentially make us a little sad, very depressed or worse.

For example, when the SEO Company Lizzie and I were working for, had to let us both go due to loss of clients, we could have, gotten really depressed(we did get a little bummed) because we then had to find new (sorry for the curse word in advance) jobs. But instead, we looked at it as the opportunity to fully go out on our own. Within a month, we were able to network our resources and were able to more than make up for the lost income and benefit security. Today, our own SEO Company, Baldydog.com, is a growing, thriving business.

How about you,

when did you have to find the gold nugget in a potentially bad situation?

Well I kind of think sometimes things happen for a reason and often, whilst it may not seem like it at the time, happens for the best.

This is obviously true in your instance as working for yourselves must be far better than working hard to earn someone else their money.

Me personally? I am still waiting for my luck to come with my business ideas - it hasn’t happened overnight and I didn’t expect it to though its taking a lot longer than I hoped!

JBO, I am sure your success is just around the corner. Luck has very little to do with it…keep positioning yourself so you can take advantage of opportunities when the present themselves.

Congratulations, I didn’t know you did SEO for a living. I thought you had a real job you know with a boss that wasn’t your wife ;)

Nope, sadly or is it thankfully, she is the only boss(other than clients) that I have.

It does seem like the Forrest Gump quote about life being like a box of chocolates has more truth than you can ever know.

I just kinda sulk about it and let it seep in until I feel better about it again. I usually try to surround myself around people.

6 years ago my husband and I were living in the city and struggling to make the rent at the end of the month after the high cost of living.
After a long illness and me unable to work we found our debt was mounting and life just seemed to be going nowhere.

We took a huge risk, sold everything we owned and scraped up a small deposit for a home in the country planning to live there for just a few years until we could afford city costs again.
We worked menial jobs for twelve months to scrape together (helped by lower costs living in the country) enough to start our own store.
After a few years (we had by then cleared all our debt other than our home)the kids came along and now my husband runs our business while I have started up my own online venture enabling me to stay at home and raise them and we have a beautiful country lifestyle that we could never give up for the city.

Sometimes when life is at its hardest opportunity knocks (or you just have to go out and hunt it down)
We are not rich (yet!) but we now have a secure home, a reliable weekly income and the potential for life to keep getting better and better - but it was a risk we would not have taken if life hadn’t been so hard at the time.

Wow, that’s a marvellous story. Very inspiring. It’s always best not to lose your cool and allow yourself into depression in such times because you’ll cause yourself to not see any opportunities presented to you during that period. So I’m glad you decided to seek for better in the worst possible time and situation ever. That speaks volumes of your character, both of you.

Wishing you all the best ;-)

I always congratulate people that have been laid off or quit work. I always see it as an opportunity to position yourself better than before, thus, it is never a bad thing, but instead, opportunity.
