Google PR Update - PR Drops to 3

Posted by Pixelhead

Awe how sad, the PR of the blog dropped to 3. BooHoo. I have been looking at my other sites and the change is mostly negative. It does seem that the importance of PR is dropping, and I find myself looking at it less and less. Of course the only time I look at it is when I am looking for advertising opportunities for my clients, as I don’t do any advertising for my own company other than word of mouth.

How has the PR Update affected you, and do you care, did you even notice?

The pr on our main page stayed the same, but has went up a little on some of our interior pages.

PR has been dropping for many sites, however internal pages seem to be having a PR increase and better traffic via long tailed keywords. Could Google be focusing more on internal link building rather than link built towards homepage?

I’ve had the PR on my main page appear, hopefully it’ll get raised soon enough. And still waiting for blog PR.

I also agree, I don’t see the effect of PR on SERPs at all. In some cases just coincidence IMO.

All of my existing sites dropped by one PR this time round - All of them have gained SERP rankings so i am not too worried.

I guess it is only an issue if you are trying to sell adverts on a PR based level which I do not!

Still, it makes you wonder if perhaps we are doing something wrong or that G doesn’t like?

Hey! My PR went up one! Well, it’s only 2 now, but I’ll take it!

I really don’t watch or pay attention to PR on my personal blog, but I will be for sure since I created a Blogger blog and instantly my PR was 3!!!

I didn’t even notice the dance, they are updating fast these days. They did nothing to my blog, it remain the same.

It definitely affects the number and amount of $$$ that my text links get in my sidebar. Has no effect on traffic.

I actually went up in PR to a PR3 (from no PR), although really, what difference does pagerank really make…

You’re right about these days PR meaning less, so don’t let the fall to 3 bug you. I had a few sites drop as well, but one of them is still beating sites with higher PR for a highly competitive set of keywords, so it doesn’t bother me one bit.

Now-a-days there is a lot of competition… and getting PR rank as 1 or 2 is really great…i feel personally.

Yeah, I don’t really put stock in PR anymore. How could you if it’s only updated twice a year (at most lately). It might have some relevance IMMEDIATELY after an update. Other than that I don’t really put much stock into it.

My PR’s not changed in ages, though I tend not to look at it too much nowadays as it’s not really that important anymore.

It is nice to have a higher PR, but there are more important factors in attaining a higher ranking on Google.

My page rank went up from 0 to 3, but it hasn’t change my traffic that dramatically. My traffic is steadily going up as it should. Building links and continuing with good quality content is the key to getting more traffic.

I have not been favored yet with a PR. Does not seem to have affected my readership.

Yeah, we will be partying this weekend - after working on our latest invention, the vote-blog, for about two months, we have PR4 after this reevaluation! Woo-hoo!
About lowered PR - looks like especially many personal blogs experienced it, some of ours too. Could it be another part of Google’s new blog-hate? They also banned AdSense from blogger.com (which is their owns) blogs, like they were doing all the time with Wordpress users…

By the way, PR really ha impact on traffic fro search engines, because SERPs are set not only by relevance to the searched word or phrase, but by PR as well - the higher you have, the better position you get.

It wasn’t bad. I went from a pagerank of 0 to a pagerank of 5, and my website was less than a month old! Try to beat that. :P

Good or bad, it doesn’t matter. Just keep up the good work and I’m sure that eventually you’ll get back to PR4 or even higher.

Best Wishes,

Mine dropped recently from 4 to 2 on my main computer related blog. I think though that was because I started submitting to a bunch of directories and I think I diluted the link juice that was giving me pr4… oh well. I should experimented with directory submission on a different site, hehe.

Google is still the undisputed king of traffic and, regardless of what’s on the horizon, Google is the major deliverer of the web’s traffic. That’s why losing your high Google PR ranking, sometimes overnight, can be so devastating for the struggling webmaster or marketer.

I had some sites that slapped with good pr.. though i am not a fanatic of page rank, i think it is considered as a trophy for a website… what matters for me is traffic. but hey, pr 3 aint that bad :)

cheers,
j

I too have seen the PR for deep pages rising with little or negative changes to the PR for the main site… Seems that the strength or weakness of one particular page on a site isn’t having as much impact as it used to.

I had most of my sites stay the same or go up this time - yay :) But yeah it doesn’t really mean much, it is just fun. I wrote about some of my pagerank results.
