Stumbleupon News from Pearl

Pearl , whose avatar is to the left, just sent me an email letting me know a comment she made on my Link Building Tips post had gone into the Spam folder. On a daily basis, I get a couple hundred pages of spam submissions that Askimet filters out, but sometimes it might do too good of a filtering job. Occasionally I do check some of the spam submissions, but normally, I just delete without checking. Sorry Pearl and anyone else whose comment may have been trapped by Askimet.

As a way of making it up to Pearl, I thought I would let you know that Pearl has a post which is were I found out that Stumbleupon is removing the 200 friend limit. That is certainly good news for a lot of people. Prior to the change, you had to go through your friends and weed out the ones that were not active in the Stumbleupon community so that you could maximize your Stumbleupon experience. This being something that I rarely got to do. Sorry Peeps, and thanks for being on top of this Pearl.

If you are a Stumbleupon user, check out Pearls Stumbleupon Profile, and add her if you like her stumbles and stop by her blog and give it a read as well.

BrightKite Beta Invites

After seeing Tweets about Brightkite from the Viddler Guys, Colin and Sandie, and after reading Colins post about a Viddler tshirt and BrightKite giveaway, I decided to sign up and find out what Brightkite is all about.

Brightkite is described as Location-based social networking, which allows you to Discover who visits your favorite places.

I don’t have a lot of knowledge about Brightkite, but I do have access to 5 invites, if you would want to receive one. I know, you already belong to way too many social networking sites, and really don’t have time to get involved with another.

Well Brightkite seems to be a social networking site that you can use while you are out and about, and will enable you to actually physically meet some other users. I can also see myself using it when I am doing restaurant reviews for thegrubhound or while writing for our travelblog.

So far, I added Lizzie, and drubyt, who was the first person to request that I add him. I also uploaded the picture above that was taken by my pool, and geo tagged the photo. Well, it actually tags the photos with your current location, and I am not exactly sure if that is the same as Geotagging. It does place the picture on a map which marks your current location. I am not exactly sure if I can add photos once I get home and then adjust their map location. Nope, I believe you need to adjust your location to be where the picture was taken, and then you can upload the photo to make the location be more accurate.

You can also set your profile to private so that only your peeps will be able to see where you are taking that risque photo.

Well if anyone would like a Brightkite invite, let me know.

If you use Brightkite, what do you think of it, and do you have any tips?

Flickr 365 Days

A little over a week ago, I started participating in the 365 Days Flickr group, which is a group where you take a picture of yourself everyday for a year, and post it to the group. The picture has to be one that you take yourself, and it must contain at least some part of your body. One lady who made a comment on my very first pic, who is also in the group, also started doing head shots of herself, and is keeping those in a separate set of pics. You can only submit one pic per day, so make sure it is a good one. Oh, and porn is not acceptable.

I think the idea of taking pictures of yourself over a year, is a pretty cool idea. It will allow you to take pictures of yourself, and after a year, you can look back and see how you have changed over the year. It will also be a good record of some of the things that you have done over that year.

I think it would be a great idea if some of the people that visit this blog, would do this as well. But hey, not everybody minds having their picture taken and posted online.

Well how about this, if you don’t want to take part in the 365 days group, how about posting a single picture of yourself here, as I think it would be pretty cool to place a face with the comments. If this is something you are not opposed to, please use img tags and post a pic in a comment below. <img src=”url”> is the code to use if you are willing to post.

If you join the Flickr group, let me know as well.

So what about you, do you mind having your picture taken and posted on-line?

Plurk Update

Here is my week one Plurk update, which includes stuff I have learned since using Plurk for about a week now. Read Lifecasting On Plurk, my first Plurk post.

Search for Plurk and Twitter Users with Google

Here is a little Google Search Engine that I customized to search both Twitter and Plurk users. I wanted to be able to find users that were near me, so I decided to try this out. Check it out and let me know what you think. Too bad I couldn’t hook up my Google Adsense code to this.

Lifecasting on Plurk

Like many other bloggers, I just started using Plurk, which is very similar to Twitter, yet different. As you can tell if you look at the sidebar to the left, I now have a Plurk widget, where the BlogRush widget was, because I don’t believe the BlogRush widget resulted in any traffic since I started using it back in September of 2007.

What is Plurk?

Plurk is a microblogging social community much like Twitter. After being asked to join Plurk by numerous people, I finally gave in and took Spostareduro’s invite and joined. As an incentive to add friends, Plurk increases your Karma points. They have a Karma rating scale which has four levels I believe. At each level you get a new title and you get to have some additional privileges.

Plurks, like Tweets, appear
